Honestly I don't see a single spot open on this roster for a rookie unless we bench multiple veterans.
Glencross - Backlund - Hudler
Raymond - Monahan - Setoguchi
Byron - Stajan - Colborne
Bollig - Bouma - McGrattan
Jones
Giordano - Brodie
Wideman - Smid
Russell - Engelland
Ramo
Hiller
Am I missing something here?

I think there are 2, or 3 even spots available for rookies if guys "earn" them. If that does play out that way, expect roster moves to be made. If guys are not ready, Treliving has vet guys as an insurance policy to fill the holes and forcing young players to play when they are not ready.
My problem with our roster is that it's very well known that our ownership group does not like to have money sitting in the press box and we have even given picks away in the past to avoid having to do it. I honesty don't really believe that if 4-5 rookies outplay these veterans in camp, we will 'make room for them'. It just will not happen. It's easy to talk about trading away guys who have been outplayed by rookies but who is going to take on these 1-way contracts of guys who got beaten out by rookies on one of the worst teams in the league? To make room we would have to trade away the Hudlers and the Glencross's on our team. No one if going to let us dump a contract like Jones or Engelland on them without us paying to do so.

If Brookbank sticks with Calgary, how many tough guys you have??!? Holy **** the level of mayhem if somebody runs over one of your young guys......
yes, they gave him that much to not be a regular
Cundari is not going to make the team. He was retained for AHL depth and experience, no more, no less.I'm still hoping Cundari takes that 7th D spot and has a Kris Russell type of a season. But more competition is always good; if you can't beat out Sheldon Brookbank you probably don't deserve an NHL spot anyway.
Interesting that they are bringing him in on a tryout after buying out a similar player in SOB.
If he has a good camp I think he could very well be that 7th Dman. He doesn't really need those developmental big minutes in the AHL like Wotherspoon, Sieloff, Kulak and could be used in that bench warmer role on the Flames. But if he's outplayed by a guy like Brookbank it's AHL depth for sure.Cundari is not going to make the team. He was retained for AHL depth and experience, no more, no less.
Leave me out of thisAlso, if you cannot debate without Flaming, you will be infracted
