We have an annoying logjam between the pipes. Gus needs playing time and is on a one way deal, Murray is our starter given his salary, but Forsberg has given us a legitimate chance to win almost every game he plays. Its a good problem to have in the sense that we should be able to get some assets for Forsberg if we move him, but man on man do I hope we move Murray, sign Forbserg to a 2 year deal that allows Gus to establish himself as our starter. The few million of capspace we save from Murray can be used elsewhere imo

Let’s go off the board with our goaltending.

To NYR Paul + Forsberg
To Ottawa Georgiev

Georgiev is not having a great season but his track record is quite good. Georgiev is in the final year of his contract and makes 2.6 M.

In this scenario we give Georgiev a QO for 2.6M and tell him to prove he deserves a longer term contract. He’s 2 years from UFA.

We still have the problem of 3 goalies.

first step is to remove Murray

if you have to toss two 2nd rounders with some retention then do it and fire the guy onto Arizona

Just buy him out if that’s the case rather than trading picks. A buyout this summer would be the same as retaining 33% of his remaining contract.

A buyout would incur a cap hit for the next four seasons. Retaining would incur a cap hit for the next two seasons.

Solution is simple: Sign Forsberg for another extension. Start the season with Murray and Gistavssson.

Park Murray in the minors

I just don't think that going with three goalies for a couple of months to start the year is all that bad. It is not ideal, but the alternative is way worse (i.e depending on Murray to be ready). Sign Forsberg, re-assess over the summer, see how Murray plays to start the year and then make the decision in November; there are always going to be NHL teams in need of goaltending help whether injury related or simply goalies failing to meet expectations.

If we’re sending him to the minors he should just be bought out to save the team 5 million dollars overall, and 5 million next season. No point in spending 7 million on a guy in the AHL when we can pay him 2.5 next year to be bought out.

Murray is causing us real problems.

We not sure what Murray we will get a in terms of performance or health wise.

Hurts Gus development, this year he was thown into the fire dying injuries and covid and AHL line up and could not get in a groove.

He is forcing us to carry 3 goalies or buy him out.

We can't trust Murray to even play 10 games. He never played a full season in Pittsburgh. He struggled with weight issues, concussion, various injuries and whatever else he is going through.

For me this is a no brainer, resign Forsberg, he is a insurance policy or our #1 until Gus takes the rein.

Murray is a problem, he can be great but seems like he can only do that for 5 games at a time before he implodes for on reason or another.

Signing Forsberg is a must and needs to be done to save Dorion's butt. If we need to carry 3 goalies so be it. However we can no longer count on Murray no matter how great he plays.

Murray is a momentum killer. Team can’t grow because he can’t stop the damn from breaking.

if we had 2 Forsbergs we’d be a 90 point team at the end of the season

Buyout Murray for sure. I’d still be tempted to move Forsberg to try and get Georgiev Save the picks for sending Zaitsev to Arizona.

Not that big a cap hit and the cash savings would be 4.5 and 5.5 in the next 2 years. Melnyk loves to push the cash down the road.

Trade him to Edmonton, they are desperate. Even if you have to take back Kyle Turris and Mike Smith and some dead weight do it and start fresh

The buyout for Murray would be $2.5 million for 4 years. Not terrible. I really think the Sens have to see what happens between now and the end of the season and then make a tough decision.

They have zero cap space. Just buy him out.

Murray has had 7 games this year allowing 4 or more goals but he also has had 10 games allowing 2 or less goals. Forsberg has had 14 games 2 goals or less and 6 games of 4 or more goals. The bottom line is that although Forsberg has had few less stinkers and a few more quality games there is no way "2 Forsbergs" get this team to 90 points.
For that you first need a healthier team and then add a couple of good players to the mix.

People talk about buy outs this is the one that actually makes sense.
