I turned it off when they scored the 6th, so maybe something changed in the last few shifts, but I think its mostly just a bad game from Tarasov. I don't see a ton of chances.

FWIW moneypuck has the chances at around 2.6 xGF for each club.

Edit: 3-2.75 in favor of the Jackets now.
I dont think you'll be eating a hat on Tarasov's behalf. Sillinger will eventually though so be ready

I turned it off with 6 seconds left, I couldn't take it anymore

This team needs a major face lift in net and defensively. Provorov and Severson were just band aids.

As bad as the game was, it was nice to get back to Nationwide for a game. First time back in a couple years. It was entertaining until they lost the lead. We had a lot of Seattle fans around us , so that sucked when they started pouring it on.

IMO this game was all on starting the guy with .783 in his last game and then refusing to play Elvis when it became apparent goalie change was due. But hey, Tarasov ended up with .829 so he's on a good trajectory...

This is such a stupid season, last year wasn't even painful after getting over the initial disappointment, then the reality set in they have like third of the roster on IR and weren't going to do shit even if they tried... then it was just tank on and enjoy what you can.

Now you have a team full of good little things, but for every good thing you have or do, you self-sabotage somewhere else. Vincent has been like that IMO and now the whole goalie thing, whether that's on management or coaching or Elvis or all of the three, but whatever. They've got goal tending to give them chance to win most nights this season but the guy giving that was sitting on the bench. Tarasov has like 2 good starts this season. This was a very winnable game.

Unfortunately, I couldn't watch the game, so I have a few questions:

1. How did Gaudreau play? I hope Johnny finally return his game back.
2. What kind of chemistry did he have with Chinakhov? I've long maintained that he and Sillinger are the perfect partners for him so interesting if I am right
3. Did Lajna Johnson - Fantilli - Roslovic just have a running race with forechecking and some good passing, Jack is a specialist in it, or did they really create chances by substandard play?
4. How did the defense play, were there a lot of unforced errors?

To Daniil. They know he still won't be perfect. Apart from what I've seen of the first four goals, there's nothing to be surprised about, it's safe to say he can't be blamed. He isn't Vasilevskiy in his prime yet. The pitching he's played has been little not only in the NHL, but also the AHL. They are probably focusing on some aspects that we don't see.

Winnable game for sure. FWIW I think it is the FO calling the shots on the goalie, Vincent is focused on winning the game and the FO has some grander plan (that none of us understand).

Gaudreau had his wheels, some good set ups for Silly. KJ and Fantilli looked good with both wingers they were tried with tonight (Roslovic and then Bemstrom). The D play was kind of par for the course for us, we probably would have let in about 4 with average goaltending, I reckon.

I concur. But if we are wrong, this team is an even bigger mess than I think it is. A coach putting his grudge over winning is not a good thing.

I think Severson will be just fine with the right pieces around him. The Devils really miss him this year.

Provorov is just another offensive minded defenseman and we still don't have enough that actually play defense.

So, judging by the wing changes, both Roslo and Bemmer were more of speed skaters with quite good play the boards, but Bemmer at least has a better shot what he showed his goal. In addition, Vincent tried to bring back the tried-and-true line of Johnson - Fantilli - Bemström. Of course I can be wrong.

I don't know. Roslovic was creating. But the line with Bemstrom deserved another look too so that's fine.

Just an outsider looking in with an actual interest in CBJ:

Every time Jiricek gets benched I feel like the team defense is a bit worse off. Was this a benching or illness?

Also, any chance after the goaltending the past few days they give Elvis another chance or has that ship sailed?

Its being disguised as load maintenance but most likely had a bad practice as skating kept being brought up. I wouldn't worry to much about it but there are always going to be knee-jerk reactions to a healthy scratch like this.

Elvis is without a doubt gone at the end of the year either through trade or buyout. You don't say the stuff he did and not expect some sort of move but this this has been a long time coming now.

Team D wasn't any worse tonight than any other game. We just got fewer saves.

They'll go back to Elvis unless there's a trade finished soon - he's said stranger things before. I honestly don't think this is even that bad by the standards of the relationship with Elvis over the last couple years. He's needed a new home for a long time.

Could be a bad practice but could also be that he genuinely needs to play fewer games and genuinely has poor skating and substandard strength that needs a lot of attention. It's a lot more important for his development than his game time.

It has indeed been a long time coming, I feel like we've heard more troubling stuff before. Like Elvis isn't even wrong in what he said, he just lacks tact.

A friend of mine told me that Elvis hasn't been the same since the firework accident and that the Cannon gives him PTSD responses and that the team didn't address this. Is any of that true?

And for the record, I think the cannon should stay

He did say that a couple years ago about the cannon blasts. That's the last we heard about it from the team or player, no idea what was done internally or if it still bothers him.

Elvis is playing well this year. You wouldn't know that something horrible happened to him. He says things without tact sometimes but he always did. He's always lacked a filter and always had grandiose ideas.

I would hope so, but I'm starting to think it could be it's between Vincent and Elvis. I just don't know, the whole thing makes no sense and Jarmo's comments were odd and if it's really about Jarmo thinking Elvis has been the problem and they should see more of Tarasov, then Vincent should've stepped up and play the goalie he thinks gives best chance of winning.

If it's all about a trade Jarmo has already been working on, then it makes some sense and comes down to just handling communication (with Elvis) and the PR side of things really poorly.

I’ll go back to McCarthy… the man who has no prior nhl coaching experience , and was a last minute substitution for Lefabve who refused the vaccine , has been in charge of coaching our defense since 2021.. Paired up with Rookie coaches in Larsen, and Pascal(who was a last minute fill in after Babcock didn’t even coach a game ). How’s our defense performed again since 2021 ? Now you have just total chaos with what they have done with Elvis . Really hoping a move is coming this week to dismiss Jarmo from damaging this organization any further . He’s a Micro type guy , trying to do a macro type job.. Great Scout.. Pitiful GM
