It's funny to me that people still hate on team names as much as they do. In the minors, it's all marketing to kids and that's why you're seeing stuff more and more like Swamp Rabbits (local tie, yes, but a fun name kids like), Ghost Pirates, and stuff like the Rocket City Trash Pandas.

I wish they would have come up with something cooler. That being said, we all thought the Bananas was a stupid name. Now they are loved in Savannah.

My 10 year old kid asked for (and received) a Savannah Bananas jersey for his birthday.

We have no connection to Savannah other than visiting there once. He just heard the name and instantly decided that it was his favorite baseball team.

Personally I have no problem with the name. It's slightly on the silly side but depending on your belief in the paranormal, Savannah is one of the more haunted cities in North America so there is some local tie in to including "ghost" in the name. It's certainly not as bad as some of the MiLB names around these days.

If we’re going by social media, they already have one of the top 3 largest Facebook groups in the ECHL at 8.2k. We’ll see who turns up after a few years when the team is bad though

I'm surprised they didn't choose a more friendly-looking mascot. There's gonna be a lot of frightened young visitors on opening night.
