Aqueduct (New York):
Aqueduct (New York):
- North America's leading rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. won three times.
- Trainer Bill Mott almost earned the rare feat of winning three consecutive races. He was up in the stretch with Junior Alvarado on board the favorite in the finale but got passed by Dylan Davis and a 26-to-1 bomb. Alvarado had just one ride all day, the fact that it was the morning line favorite in the finale was an attention-getter.
- Chris DeCarlo won the opener and paid $26.20 with the second highest odds in an 8-horse field. DeCarlo, who doesn't ride often but can still horseback with confidence, was scheduled to have one other ride, a 50-to-1 later in the day but he was replaced. The trainer was Dennis Lalman who won for the 44th time in his career. It was unseasonably cold at the track today.
- Irad Ortiz, Jr. leads the meet with six wins. Since many of the usual winning riders were elsewhere at this early part of the meet, it gave opportunities for others to take control. Jersey Joe Bravo -- Have whip, will travel! - is among a group with Kendrick Carmouche, Dylan Davis, Junior Alvarado and Nik Juarez who follow.
- Top riders Jose Ortiz has one win in 14 starts and Javier Castellano is 1-for-10 at the early part of this meet.
- Canceled its card following the first race due to the weather.
- Trainer Larry Jones had two horses and each won in consecutive races. Jones has been first or second with nine of his 15 starters at the meet.
- The 20-cent Rainbow 6 was hit for $52,137.54.
- Robby Albarado won three times.
- The $.50 Pick 5 paid over $7,000.
- Santo Sanjur won three consecutive races en route to a 4-2-1 day on 9 mounts.
- Race 5: A 69-to-1, the longest shot on the board in a 10-horse field. was ahead in the stretch, got caught but paid $63.60 in the middle. The $1 exacta was $295.
- Six of the nine horses were singled for the Pick 6 heading into the Del Mar finale. If one of the six won, a unique ticket holder would claim the pot though not unreasonably large. it happened. The pot was nailed for $80,000+.
