REINHART SCORES TWICE, PANTHERS MAINTAIN TOP SPOT IN LEAGUE STANDINGS
Sam Reinhart
(2-0—2) scored a pair of goals – the first of which came courtesy of a highlight-reel assist from Aleksander Barkov (0-2—2) – to help the Panthers (42-16-4, 88 points) earn their fifth straight win and extend their lead to two points in the Presidents’ Trophy Race.

* The Panthers posted their fourth winning streak of at least five games this season – their most instances in a campaign after recording three runs of five-plus contests in 2021-22, 2017-18 and 2015-16.

* Reinhart scored his 43rd and 44th goals of the season and surpassed Carter Verhaeghe (42 in 2022-23) for sole possession of the third most in a campaign in franchise history. The Panthers forward is on pace for 58 goals, which would come within one of Pavel Bure’s single-season record (59 in 2000-01) while matching the second-highest total in franchise history (Bure: 58 in 1999-00).

* Reinhart netted his League-leading 25th power-play goal of 2023-24 – 10 more than any other player – and became the sixth skater in the past 20 years to reach that mark in a campaign. The others: Leon Draisaitl (32 in 2022-23), Chris Kreider (26 in 2021-22), Alex Ovechkin (25 in 2014-15), Teemu Selanne (25 in 2006-07) and Ilya Kovalchuk (27 in 2005-06).

Hey guys Pens fan coming here in peace. A lot has changed since 2022.

What do you guys think of his current contract will be?

9.5 million or does he hit 10 million for 7 or 8 years?

I don’t think $ goes that high. IMO, he takes a little less to stay in Florida. GM Zito is trying to keep the band together (see Forsling contract) and with the less taxes and being in a great situation playing with Barky and Tkachuk on the power play, with a coach that admires his all around game….. you see where I’m going here?!

100% a team winning games and playing in Florida is great.

If he hit UFA I'd expect teams lining up with 10 million by 7 year offers is all.

I can imagine the negotiations are extremely difficult.

I was looking at the roster and to have a spare forward and defensemen next season there is 21.5 roughly million to sign.

Montour I expect around 7 which brings that to 14.5

Reinhart at 9 brings it down to a million a person to roughly sign to fill the rest.

I think it will be around 8.5, could be even 8 x 8 because the contract will take him almost to 37. That's quite risky for the organization. But lets say it's 8.5 x 8 years, that's 68 million in total. A team would have to offer 10 million in free agency to to surpass that and even then it's just by 2 million for a guy who's career earnings will be around 100 million. And giving him 10 mil per is nuts.

tl dr: I can't see him leaving.

Huh, if it was most "insiders" I would brush it off as a joke but it seems Weekes is connected around this league.

Is Weekes just talking shit or are we about to get some more contract news?

Seems like a strange tweet/video to make out of the blue....

Probably some agent told Weeks that they've come down by a 100k in the negotiations while Zito's waiting for a 2mil drop. Ofc, Weekes can't be quiet about it as his "profession" dictates...

Why are we still acting like Montour is gonna get paid big bucks

Because you acted like Forsling was supposed to the get the big bucks. :thumbu:

A lot of people are throwing around crazy numbers for him and while other teams would maybe offer them, the panthers dont need to and wont. We have the tax edge, the contract length edge, the winning team edge, and the quality of life edge. That and the contract starts when he's 29. The number will start with an 8 and he'll take it. We're not paying more and he's not leaving.

My gut feel was $8x8. If we’re lucky, even $8.25x7.
It'll be 8 years so that we can lower the AAV as much as possible since we wont be competitive in 6-8 years anyway and we need to get players under contract the next 2 years. It should be between 8-8.5 mil. There's no universe he gets 9 unless its a 5 year deal which would make no sense to either side.
