Also hit a post with another long, hard shot where the goalie was beaten, and just missed deflecting a point shot in the net...both on PP.
Before the game, the Iowa coach went on a long rant about how players had to show their worth, or they were going to sit on the bench. He then mentioned what Sokolov did wrong on a set play in the 1st game, which led to a GA. At this point, he either is playing on the 1st line/1st PP, or sitting on the bench, on a team depleted because many of their players are on the NHL taxi squad.
Sokolov has that very valuable skill of being able to score, but seems to be able to add very little to his game besides that, and there have been numerous hints over the years about his lax attitude over conditioning. I don't see that he is that bad of a skater, just sluggish at times. Doesn't seem to be disliked or a problem in the room, maybe just a tad oblivious.
He is the sort of guy who drives coaches a little crazy. He needs to figure it out if he wants a NHL career.
