yeah that’s what people don’t get.
Like if they traded for him with that contract in place.

But the contract is seperate from the trade.

If Denver trades that package and lets him play just one season they could have moved off of him easily as he had term from his old deal.

Never would have happened, he had a NoTrade clause and him waiving it was pretty much contingent on getting a big extension with Den, even if it wasn't finalized for a few months after trade

That is what people don’t get. Ntc gave Russ leverage with the acquiring team. I just don’t know if his contract contained any clauses regarding the franchise tag. If he also had that then if the trade did work out for Denver Russ would be in the drivers seat for a new deal as he would walk from Denver.

You literally can’t promise that according to the CBA

So I’m not wrong
They can trade for him and still let him play
He knew who the new owners were

Yet it happens all the time, you need look no further than Deshaun Watson, who turned down a trade to cleveland until they offered him a fully guaranteed contract extension

Who were his options
Only two teams inquired
A broke Washington team with an owner under federal indictment who never paid players
Or denver

Not nearly the same as Deshaun Watson as there were more suitors

They didn’t have to pay him at all
Then he stays in seattle

And Denver rolls back with Drew Locke that the team and fanbase are out on?

When your team goes multiple years with poor QB play, you become desperate.

You also don't trade all those picks and players away and not extend the guy you brought in

Russ could have always accepted the trade and then held out or held in until he got a new deal

Yes, you're wrong

He wouldn't have waived if it wasn't largely agreed to and in the works, and he wouldn't have played until it was finalized.

You also have to remember the Broncos were being sold at this time and the deal and the deal was officially completed shortyl after the sale was completed.

The extension was essentially a part of the trade

LOL
schefter said it was the owners that wanted the contract done quicker for rising deals
it was their idea
rapport aid the same thing they wanted to do it to flex their money

nice try though

Ill take the opinion of people who are actually insiders

Remember that when the Broncos acquired Wilson, the Walton-Penner ownership group had not yet acquired the team, and Paton didn't immediately extend the QB. So that theory is again debunked.

Not in real money. $50 mill SB. A pair of option bonuses $42 mill. $17 mill base for 2024.

Closer to half that amount.

He got paid too much because of the fake narrative that Carroll and the Seahawks were holding him back. The "Let Russ cook" mantra paid huge dividend.

For the money, under $2 mill as he won't get more than the $38 mill he's getting from the Broncos, it's worth a meeting. Giants, Jones is out for Sept. Pitt and LV, not fully committed to their current starters of Pickett and AOC. So, these 3 teams make sense.

The contract is Russ' main selling point to teams. He'd come cheap this season for them. Just whether he fits the offense that the team would like to run. If you don't have a good run game, then he's not going to work. He needs a run game and good outside WR. He's not a middle of the field guy, so having top notch TE or slots probably not going to be maximized with Russ.

And of course, his attitude coming in.

Pittsburgh seems to be the best fit, IMO.

about time

and nobody try to tell me he played well, guy is the epitome of empty calories.
Look at the total check-downs with him as the QB in denver..... they were huge.
He isnt processing the game at all to keep up with today's speed of the game.

that win streak was set up by the defense having record breaking turnovers and giving him short fields

nightmare tenure.
Thank god for having the richest owner

He wants to be a celebrity more than a good player.

The only question is, what does he do with his next contract?
Every dollar he asks for and gets, means less money Denver owes him according to the wording.
so he can take the veteran minimum and stick it to denver, but that also means the team can cut him easily hurting his reputation even further if he struggles at all.

Not sure how much of a difference that makes to him. His legacy is already complete, as is his case for Canton. You can always add, but they'll judge him based on his Seattle years.

Is it? One SB win, lost another. No All-Pros, has (famously) never received an MVP vote much less one won. No individual accolades of any sort aside from Pro Bowls which the fan element waters down. I feel like at a certain point everyone just started calling him a future hall of famer but his case isn’t nearly as strong as it’s made out to be.

I'm not saying hes a lock. But they'll go off his body of work in Seattle.

Someone put the numbers up in The Athletic. His passing numbers look like a HoF candidate ergo he probably gets in.

Also please keep him away from the Steelers.
