Swap out one of the few right handed forwards we have for another bottom pairing left handed guy who can't score.
How much does handedness matter when you can't put up points? Yes, we should be out there looking for right handed guys, but don't pass up an opportunity to add another element to your roster because of the way someone shoots the puck.

Probably as much as trading him for 4th liner who has gotten worse every single year he's been in the NHL. Ugh you know they did that exact thing when targeting Larsson right? You realize its one of the reasons we have Letestu on the pp, right? You realize it is one of the reasons our pp is so f***ing bad, right?

Significant difference between defense and offense because we're now talking about breaking pucks out of our zone. There's a reason why it's uncommon to see defensemen playing on their off-hand.

Again, we are talking about two players who are both considered depth options on their respective rosters. We aren't talking about the PP either. Slepyshev is an effective forechecker being given prime offensive minutes and producing zero. When we take those opportunities away, where does that leave him? Off the roster currently.

Can you tell me why Girgensons' stats have 'gotten worse' every year? Are you familiar with how he's been utilized in Buffalo? What kinds of opportunities has he gotten in their top six? They must've seen enough in him to pay him $1.6m each of the next two seasons. Maybe there's more to him than what's showing up on that stat sheet. What I'm aware of are his abilities. And they're of a different element than Anton's. I'd consider that offensive upside pretty much the same at this point.

I don't know what Girgensons brings to the team.

He's consistently been one of Buffalo's worst possession players and the very little offense he brings has been declining.

Why are they hoarding the cap space this year, Get some UFA as a rental, that can help this team.

Next year we will be hard pressed, to even sign some of our more productive players..

I wonder if UFA rentals are a reasonable expectation right now? And by that I mean is it worth the price they would cost? It's a real slippery slope, do you roll the dice and deal our 1st and risk the lottery pick or on the flip side, hang onto the pick only to fall a few points shy of the wildcard? I'm not sure what the right answer is.

He's consistently been one of Buffalo's worst possession players and the very little offense he brings has been declining.

A big body, a good skater, a physical forward who has shown offensive ability in the past. He is currently a player who can play center and kill penalties--two things Anton Slepyshev does not offer.

Again, do you know how he's been used in Buffalo? What kind of opportunity has he been given to address those offensive slides? His HERO chart suggests he's a quality shot suppressor and an effective fourth liner. That's what he is today. What I'm suggesting is he might be a decent fit in Slepyshev's role next to RNH. A speedy 6'2 winger to win board battles, kill penalties, take the odd draw. When you weigh the two against each other, Girgensons just gives you better versatility.

Right from the horse's mouth....

So what has Girgensons evolved into five seasons and 300 games into his career?

“(A) two-way player, definitely offense has been a problem the past couple years, so it’s definitely something I’m focusing on,” he said. “But penalty kill is something I definitely established throughout my games, so that’s one of my big parts of my games.”

As long as we can score 6 or 7 goals per game, we don't have to worry about goal-tending..

I forgot we had Fayne in the minors still. Has his game regressed that much that he is buried that deep?
He does nothing special. Even if he's slightly better defensively TM and PC rather have OV2 who has an offensive side or Gryba who has a physical edge. Now add Davidson who pretty much is a younger Fayne, but more physical and you can see why Fayne is buried.

What a horrible signing Fayne turned into. Thankfully, his contract expires after this year I believe.
I didn't really think he was ever going to be that good. Far too many claimed he was a top pairing guy even though he just played with Greene, but only played 18 minutes a night.

I am however shocked at how poorly this contract has looked. The guy is only 30 now and has looked like his been done for a few years now

Agreed. At least from Fayne's perspective, he was able to cash-in and get one decent contract before he fades into irrelevancy.

I get the sense he checked out a bit, which is why he gets hurt a lot now, why there's issues with him in camp, he just tries as much as he needs to.

Fayne was never anything more than a mediocre bottom pairing guy.

Andy Greene is even better than New Jersey fans think he is.

lol this is the best,

so we are willing to overlook multiple seasons of offensive ineptitude for a bum player but we are also the fan base who ran eberle out of town for ONLY getting 51 pts in a down season ignoring the point totals he put up in the past.

hfoil is just going to hfoil

What even is this? Where does Jordan Eberle enter the conversation? Read my post history. At no point was I running him out of town. I am suggesting a depth trade. Don't blow it out of proportion.

I think he has now for sure. There was talk before that he was a very good veteran in Bakersfield. Curious if he still will be this year. That team could use some solid vets
