How does anyone know that is what happened? Who said it?
Last call for Oilers defenceman Klefbom

Late hits: Ty Rattie is turning into Mr. Opportunity in his call-up with the Oilers. He has two goals in two games, an empty netter at 19:10 of the Saturday game and a centering pass that went in 14 seconds into Sunday. Technically, it’s two goals in 64 seconds … Pontus Aberg, who lost his spot on the first line after missing practice Friday, might be out of the punitive stage of his press-box assignment, but now has to wait for an opportunity to get back in the lineup somewhere else … Defenceman Kris Russell (hand) missed his second game in a row but with Klefbom heading back to Edmonton and Andrej Sekera leaving Sunday’s game after being hit on the foot with a shot, he might have to hurry back … Zack Kassian sat out Sunday after being hit hard into the boards Saturday.

I'm assuming Keegan Lowe or Dillon Simpson get a look down the stretch with Klefbom going under the knife.

How has Jones looked since returning? I'd just as soon give him a cup of coffee if he's back up to speed. Maybe just a few games though unless he doesn't look out of place. Otherwise Lowe would be a decent stopgap. Hell what about Auvitu?

Give JP 2 years and I think he can become that winger. The rocket he scored off Nuges pass some weeks ago on the PP definately hints that he has a cannon in his skillset

At this point I honestly think we need to have our RW work out from within. There's too many other glaring needs

I agree, but think less time is needed is he's handled properly. I'm not going deeper into this, as talking about the player's role in recent troubles and the role the coaches play in it triggers debate so easily.

But what I don't understand is why they don't try and develop him in that role (top6 winger + PP specialist) now that the games are meaningless and there would be room with Letestu and Maroon gone. The only reason I can think of is they know what they have in Pulju and are trying to hide his strengths and then push for the extension at the earliest possible time.

From my perspective, what we need is an experienced 3rd line center (maybe Strome?), 2-3 top 9 wingers, and an offensive Dman. Unless we're able to jettison Lucic or Russell (which is highly unlikely), we won't have the cap space available to fill all of those holes.

Yeah. I remember reading that.

I have no idea why our management at the time would try to convince a US college commit to go the junior route. It makes absolutely no sense to me. But ultimately the kid still burned his bridge refusing to sign. There will always be bad blood there.

Well I mean, it is the Oilers. Is it really that surprising that they made a terrible decision?

I'd deal Benning with Lucic+Caggiula for Gudbranson. I'm sure GM Benning has a soft spot for his nephew.

Then use the available cap space on Carlson and a 2LW

Jones doesn't look comfortable at the AHL level yet.

Grub is on 4 mill starting next year. Not that much of a saving.

Canuck fans would want us to take Erickson and grub in that deal
Gudbranson has 3 years left at 4M with no NMC. Lucic has 5 years at 6M and a NTC. At worse Gudbrason replaces Benning and stands up for his teammates. Lucic doesn't do anything

If there's a trade to be made, it's with the Nucks

I think the only chance you have of moving Lucic is with retention to LA. I can’t see him going anywhere but there or Boston and the Bruins certainly don’t want/need him.

That sheds no light on things as it only repeats that he missed practice, it doesn't mention the specific reason why.

I mean the odds are likely that he overslept (which would be a bit weird in itself as I don't think it was an 8 AM practice or whatever), but until we hear from Aberg himself, assuming the team even allows him to speak to the media about it, we'll likely not hear exactly why he missed it.

LA and Boston are contending. Lucic will only make them worse.

Lucic to the Nucks is perfect actually since they're still rebuilding for another 2 years. They could buy him out once they become more competitive in 3-4 years. He's also from Vancouver. GM Benning also wanted to sign his nephew. Caggiula played with Stecher in college.

Yeah, if it were at all possible to get LA interested in getting Lucic again I think he would happily waive his clause to go there. I remember one interview he did after he signed with the Oilers, where he confirmed how much he enjoyed playing there in the brief time he was a King, and specifically mentioned how nice it was to be in a place where he could move around in public in relative anonymity.

I'd bet that he's hating playing in Edmonton these days, it's probably been the worst year in his pro career, and he's having it in one of the worst possible cities to have a bad year because he probably can't go anywhere by himself or with family without some self-entitled "fan" reminding him how much he sucks at everything.

Of course, it's one thing to have him want to go, and quite another to have another team actually want to acquire him with that millstone of a contract around his neck.

Don't see the point in fanwanking about Lucic trades. I'd be amazed if he weren't an Oiler next year.

If only because the cost of getting a team to take him on would be prohibitive and balancing the team around him will almost definitely lead to a better season from him.

The issue at the time (and I may have some things wrong as this was nearly a decade ago now) was that the Oilers had a couple reasons why they were not enamored with Nash's choice.

1 - Cornell wasn't really recognized as a great hockey program at the time
2 - It was rumoured that the main reason Nash wanted to go there was to play with his older brother, who was also part of the Cornell program

IMO there was fault to be had on both sides. Ultimately I think Nash just didn't want to play on a Canadian team.

Fun fact:

Cornell's starting goalie during Nash's rookie season at Cornell? Ben Scrivens, lol.

So on the back end

Sekera 5.5
Klefbom 4.1
Larsson 4.1
Russel 4
Nurse 4
Grub 4

Bit much on the back end

If Lucic doesn't improves and he's still stapled in the top 6 and getting PP time, then I don't see how the Oilers are in the conversation for playoffs. If that's the case, then might as well write next year off.

I think you're strongly exaggerating the importance of a single wingers performance relative to the team. Lucic is especially egregious this year because SO MUCH else is also going wrong. In much the same way that Benoit Pouliot was a problem last year, a bad season of hockey from Lucic on a team that otherwise works is annoying but probably not crippling outside of the cap.

I think in a more competitive environment, Milan would not be getting the opportunity to find some momentum that he's gotten in a cooked season. He'd be relegated to 3 and 4line work because the team needs to win more than it needs something good for him to build on.
