I am pretty sure Statsny is staying in the Peg.

Based on what?

Have you been following the discussion of the kind of moves that Chevy would need to make to create cap space for him?

It isn't out of the question but it would be extremely difficult.

I don't think anyone is hating on Kane for being honest. It's just that his priorities have traditionally appeared to be primarily focused on the lifestyle/money side.

Of course, his biggest crime to local Jets fans is that Winnipeg did not suit his ideal lifestyle and he didn't make much of a secret about it...so I suppose maybe it IS the honesty than rankled people. He didn't hide his disdain for being in Winnipeg, and that rubbed people the wrong way. And why wouldn't it? Fans are paying significant amounts for these guys to play a game for millions of dollars - they should be thanking their lucky stars they have the opportunity to do what they do anywhere. When you play for Winnipeg, pretend you love it here - just like Selanne did.

Most people (probably almost *all* people) consider money and lifestyle a very important part of their job selection. Should hockey players be different? Asking for a friend.

The expectations placed on hockey players are beyond ridiculous. Just listen to the quotes they give to reporters after a game and try not to roll your eyes. No other sport I'm aware of expects their players to talk this way. They sound like bloody robots regurgitating the same script day after day after day.

But as soon as one of them dares to give a different answer to a question (like during the playoffs when Auston Matthews gave the off-the-cuff "shit happens" quote) the player gets crucified in the media and by fans/stalkers *forever*. "Selfish!" "Arrogant!" "Not a team player."

Listen to an interview with Jonathan Toews from any time in the past 10 years. Then go to an interview with PK Subban when he first broke into the league with Montreal. Then listen to an interview with PK Subban from the past year. He has finally learned to "say the right things" and be seen as a "team player". In other words, hockey players are not permitted to publicly show any personality or speak normally. Bizarre.

People (especially Jets fans) continue to hate Kane over even the most innocuous things over three years after he's left the team. Is that normal behavior? Is it normal for Jets fans to *immediately* rush over to *every* new thread about Kane in other teams sections on HFBoards and give a day by day, hour by hour documentation of all of his alleged transgressions against humanity? Or how about posting the "Moneyphone™" or "Moneypush™" photos in every Kane thread? Yesterday someone went as far as to post a photo of him being handcuffed by police. Is this supposed to publicly shame him? As far as I know Kane was never found guilty of doing anything. At what point will the Internet vigilantes stop? Ever?

And listen to the angriness in the language of most of the posts attacking Kane even now. How many times has he been called an idiot, stupid, dullest to tool in the shed (yesterday), etc.? W. T. F. ???Do posting these comments make people feel better about themselves? Do you see *any* other players similarly being persistently attacked online (besides maybe Subban)? What does that tell you about the people attacking Kane?

The Jets have around 25.4m to sign players for next year. If MP and Myers are traded, we open up 9.625m bringing it up to around 35m with an 80m salary cap.
Lotsa cash to go around.

You haven't been paying attention. There is no money to spare. None. Zip. Zero. You can't just look at next year. You have to look at the term of the deal. You also have to provide for bonus payments and replacing injured players.

Look at that table and tell me where the money is going to come from.

We need at least 1.5 mil more in '19, 900k + plus bonuses in '20 and 1.4 mil + bonuses in '21. Then there are the extras that come with injuries. The good news is that the bonuses will be less in '20 & '21 but we are still over.

Maybe the cap goes up faster than that. It also could go up slower.

Agreed....only reason to trade Myers is if you have another option to use his cap space at 2C. I'm hoping we do trade him and get a 2C.......can't stand watching Laine/Little/Ehlers.
Just move Ehlers to centre where he should have been all along and put Veselainen on the left side.

San Jose Sharks allow you to be yourself. What's TNSE's problem?
They won't allow him to be himself if he pulls some of the stuff he did in Winnipeg and Buffalo. So far he has been on his best behaviour trying to get that long term big money deal. Now he has it. Teams will give you a clean slate and a 2nd/3rd chance, but that doesn't mean they will be pleased with any indiscretions.

Next year isn't the problem, it's the year after when Laine and Wheeler and Connor need new contracts.

Too much for Lowry, Armia, Laine and a few others and you have re-signed Stastny to 6m?

If Lowry costs $3+ million a season we need to trade him. I just don't see his prime being very long, he's already got some chronic nagging injuries.

If we get a fully healthy Lowry next playoffs, I see finals in our future... just sayin

Lowry is one of my favourites and I think he could be an excellent playoff player. The injuries to the shoulder joint are hugely problematic though. The choice comes to surgery which risks loss of function but increases stability and rehab which protects function but risks stability.

He was clearly playing with a serious injury through the playoffs because he looked far away from the player he was in the first half of the season. Hopefully they take as long as possible to let him rehab/recover if surgery is the route chosen, even if he misses a few months of next season.

Signing depth players to terms like this is rarely a good idea, IMO. Both these guys are 4th liners, you don't want term on those guys, IMO.

Yeah I agree. Give them 1-2 years max. Lowry is a bit different. I'd probably try to get him on a 4 year term. 9 mill really isn't that bad. That's only 2.25 mil a year.

Saying that Lowry is a "depth" player is an interesting take, considering that he was easily the Jets' best defensive forward, while being the Jets' 3rd highest 5v5 scorer at 2.13 points/60. His xGF% was almost 61%, despite the toughest matchups and tough zone starts. Not sure what else he needs to do to garner a bit higher opinion from some fans. He'd be an absolute steal at $9M over 4 years.

Every teammate was better with Lowry than without, and wasn't actually very close...

Yeah Lowry is IMO the best defensive player on this team and again it is not particularly close. He's a huge reason we have become a team that is so difficult to matchup against. Copp seems to be his guy as well. As the two of them seem to up their game when with each other. Tanev is night and day when not with Lowry.

What in Lowry's body of work makes him a fourth liner?

I'm genuinely interested to hear the reasoning. All the stats suggest otherwise.

Lowry's offensive contribution seemed to take a step forward this season. Is that sustainable or was it just a blip? If his past production (before this season) indicates the true Lowry, then he looks like a 4th liner to me.

4th line players don't consistently outplay top line opposition. Lowry did. Even if his scoring rates are a blip, he dominated his competition in shot attempts and expected goal share. He was a matchup nightmare for many opposing top lines. That makes him more than a usual 4th liner. The high scoring rate is gravy, but as long as he outplays and outscored opponents, the actual offensive production isn't as important.
