"Where are my people?'
Ken asks himself before the draft
Not many picks left for other rounds
He should just trade what he has left.
Hopefully Ken has some bold moves in store
Like trading for Kane and get a goalie that
Isn't overpaid and signed to a decent contract
Ken better not let things get out of hand
Like trading JP for something bland

McDavid, Draisaitl are the MVPs
Need some guys to play in between
Ken should be shopping like he's at Wal-Mart
Need some D and a goalie to start
The rumors better start heating up
Conference finals were not good enough
Saying "We've got some prospects coming up the pipe"
Ken, don't threaten me with a good time.

Last thread over 1K.
JP likely gone.
Kane is still in Edmonton.
Smith likely boarding a ship to head to Robidas Island.

At least we won’t be paying Kosk 4.5 and Smith 2+. Perhaps a Barrie trade and good luck with Shark proceedings get us a cheap Kane. Maybe some dumb teams that needs “toughness” will take Kassian.

I'd rejoice if Holland made some savvy moves to rid us of some bad contracts. I do see some teams having interest in Kassian but the term might scare a few teams off

Seattle had an anemic PP. Barrie for Soucy would be a fair trade
Exactly same goes with the flyers (Sandhiem) And NJ ( Siegenthaler) these moves end up
Helping both teams and Barrie’s value of a player (offensive PP specialist) balances the trades better

Predictions
- we trade the 29th overall in a package
- Skinner rolls in a 1A 1B
- Pulj is traded
- Kass is traded
- Barrie is traded
- we do not re sign Kane
- we make a big UFA signing not on the radar or being talked about right now

Regarding the goalie, if we were to get into a bidding war and overpay (hopefully not, but likely) I would rather get Campbell than Husso if presented with those two options.

Should be interesting to see how we look 2 weeks from now in any case.

I mean, if we did this and rolled up on Filip Forsberg and Jack Campbell, and add a cheap but effective defensive D... id consider it a pretty f n good offseason

Also, not sure if it was mentioned in the last thread but in Nugent-Bowman’s article, he also mentioned that Holland met with Smith in Kelowna on Thursday and talked to Keith at least twice in the past week. He said that July 10 is when he’s want to know their decisions.

Perhaps notable is that Dreger reported that Smith was likely to go on LTIR on Thursday (the same day they they met), so it does seem that he may have some sort of connection.

I think the main thing that happens is Holland finally gets a goalie.

We are running a combo with Skinner and one of Kuemper Campbell or Husso. I feel pretty confident about that.

I know each of those options has their red flags, but a scout I talked to last year said a goaltending change would be a big moral boost for this group. They can start with blind trust their goalie isn't guaranteed for a crap goal or two every single game.

Holland top Priorities:
I dont think it's a stretch fo say that the top two priorities for Holland are getting Kane signed and a #1 goaltender. Even if he fails to do so, I think his plan A is to try address both.

Goaltending:
From what's been reported it wouldnt be a jump to think he would prefer to get a goaltender in free agency as opposed to spending the assets to do so. Weve heard that the Oilers are interested in Husso, Campbell and Kuemper. Their are only so many goaltenders on the market and Holland will have to pay market to bring them here. My guess as to their asking price

Husso 3.25M-4M x 3-4 years
Campbell 4.5M-5.5M x 3-5 years
Kuemper 5.5-6M x 5 years

Evander Kane:

I think Kane wants to come back. He knows that playing with McDavid will be what's best for his career and his chances for winning. Having said that, he needs to make the best financial decision for him. He needs to try and hit a homerun but I dont see teams lining up to give him the 7M-8M x 7 contract hes looking for. In another post I mentioned how the Landeskog contract was 7x7 and Kane will likely get less.

Another team might give him the 7M+ he wants on a 2-3 year deal. I think Holland will give Kane the length and stability he wants by offering him term. Personally I'm hoping for 5.5M x 5 years but I could see Holland going up to 6x6.

So what does this mean?

IMO this means that Holland is basically planning to add 11M in cap between Kane (6M) and Campbell (5M). So where does the money come from? I see holland doing the following:

1. Kassian - Find a trade if possible if not you have to pay to dump him or buy him out.
2. Barrie - I wish we could keep Barrie because I think we will miss his passing and offence when it's gone. Having said that we need the cap and Bouchard in theory makes him replaceable.
3. Keith - Holland probably Hope's he retires but I also like the idea of trading him, having that team buy him out and signing for league minimum. We get the cap space, Keith gets more money and the team gets cap floor help (only paying real dollars) and an asset.

If Holland is able to do all three maybe we can afford Puljujarvi and Foegele but I think he also looks at moving those two if he can clear up cap and bring in something else.
