At the beginning of the season the Preds were in a "competitive rebuild" with the playoffs a longshot while the Avs were favored to compete for the conference title. At the trade deadline, the Preds stood relatively pat and the Avs (among other favored teams) made some fairly significant additions to push for a run.
The Avs taking both in their barn is not surprising. Our inability to play anything resembling our usual game is. The PP went from dynamic to static ... the forecheck is lacking ... the passing is inaccurate ... the discipline continues to be a problem. The good thing is that Ingram has looked good in his nearly two full games of play. The Herd finally got one. Trenin came to play in game 2 ... now he needs his teammates to mirror that effort.
