Remember when the NHL said the jersey ads wouldn't be on merchandise sold to fans?

There's no particular "business acumen" here. The NA business model is to create monopolies on entire sports, shake down taxpayers for handouts then lie about how much more moral their product is relative to the rest of the world - even though sports teams in NA major leagues only exist as franchises and not as actual social institutions.

The least we can do is call a spade a spade. You can buy as much ad-ridden Fanatics garbage as you'd like, your team's owners would still move in a heartbeat if they were offered enough freebies across the continent.

Oh but the powers that be in those leagues will tell you they are exactly that. Totally in the hopes of shaking down more money, of course, but they're just hoping no one says the quiet part out loud.

Once you get out of the jersey buying game, you realize how silly it is anyway. Like who care if you have an authentic? So you paid $300+ for a piece of clothing that you rarely wear.

Just be a fan, wear an authentic, wear a knockoff, wear a t-shirt/sweatshirt, hoodie, whatever you want, heck make your own homemade jersey for all I care. As long as you're supporting the team/league/sport it's all good.

There was a great comment made in a thread about whether a player's legacy is impacted by having been on multiple teams. The question was "why so important a guy plays for one team?" The response, "so people don't have to believe they are rooting for laundry." Pretty much summed it all up right there.

They are a business that wants your money. You are a customer, not a fan. Recalling that piece of information can clear up a lot of things.

Why would teams owners want to ruin the jersey?

Most billionaires like to make money and don't necessarily have the same allegiance to the sweater as fans do.

I hate it (and Chris Ilitch can step on every Lego that has ever existed) but it isn't about the Ilitch family somehow being broke and needing to scrimp and save to keep the Red Wings afloat. That is silly.

Is it possible they have jerseys with and or without the advertising? I imagine some might want to be authentic and there might be a market out there of people who want the jersey to be identical to what players wear on the ice?

Why is there an advertisement for garbage collection on their jersey? They couldn't even pick a brand that had some class to it?

Because of greed, not a lack of money. Also, hilarious you are calling Detroit a poverty franchise, yet Dallas is the best of the best. What exactly makes Dallas so great, their 1 Cup win in 1999?

Yeah unfortunately now to get a proper on-ice replica you have to get it with an ad on it
