Still one of my favorite games of all time. Even though I describe it is fun and boring at the same time ... it's a weird game.
this is a great way to describe it. I've found myself playing for a few hours than thinking back and trying to remember what I really did... like 3 hours just flew by, but I would maybe do one true mission and a bunch of random stuff I have no memory of. I guess it just proves how fun(?) yet long going everywhere by horse is.

When I'm not in the mood for something competitive I love just jumping in and going around hunting various animals to complete the trapper outfits. This game has one of the most serene settings and vibes to it, with headphones on it's really immersive atmosphere.

This game is so unique. As @Bocephus86 said, it's amazing how you can spend 3 hours and not really "accomplish" anything, but still have a great time. This game may even beat Skyrim in my book in terms of getting lost in the world and have more fun doing side things than actually "playing" the game.

Going to start this game over tomorrow and finally give it a proper try despite having it for 3 years. Has Rockstar patched any of the tedious things in the campaign like cleaning your gun and horse?

I have seen no issue with those items. I bought this at the beginning of the Covid lock downs and have loved it. Plan on playing thru it again once I beat it. Only issue i have seen is, I had a Hog randomly fall from the sky, glitch out then get ran over by my horse. So much to do in this game. Ive watched some Youtube videos by "StrangeMan" on hidden things and stuff outside the normal story mode.

I have to set a timer because its easy to blow thru 2-3 hours or more playing. Love getting lost and interacting with everyone/thing.

Halloween update is out. Doesn't seem to be very substantial, and you won't get your 15 gold back.

Game was getting pretty stale, so this should help.

Went back to re-play through this game and try to get 100% completion. It has aged incredibly well, and as others said above it is amazing how 3 hours can just disappear without really "doing" anything of note.

One thing I did not remember is how goddamn frustrating the challenges are. Moose and panthers are insanely rare even if you know where the spawn points are, and you have to catch several. Even more frustrating are challenges like "win 3 games of blackjack when hitting 3 times". There's nothing you can do to influence that, just sit there and play blackjack for hours on end until you get lucky 3 times. It kind of kills the fun of the mini-games especially.

I really hope Rockstar finally rolls out another sequel/prequel. RDR I and II are two of the best games ever made.

Dude, it's a three year old game.

A lot has happened in video games these past three years. Everything on the market is now an epic immersive open world masterpiece etc etc. With streaming plus a new generation of consoles, the sky’s the limit.

RDR2 went against the grain… while everyone else seems to be going for bigger and more senory-overload type experiences, Rockstar made a game where you spend an hour standing around fishing and listening to birds chirp while admiring the play of light through the leaves. It sounds like sales poison, but it’s not derivative of anything (that I’ve seen, anyway) and has an immersive effect that just carries you away. IMO it’s an actual generational masterpiece in a lot of ways. Maybe not so much for the storyline, which is just OK.

I just watched an episode of Narcos when I did the blackjack challenge and constantly hit "A".

Played RDR2 on the original PS4 when it first came out and now playing it on the Xbox Series X and my Samsung Q80T. I know this will only play the One X version as there is no Series X patch but is HDR still broken/not good?

I have the HDR on “game mode” in the in-game HDR settings. I have played other games with HDR on my tv and they look great. And this one does as well at times. But other times it seems way too dim for the environment the characters are in. I have tried adjusting the paper white settings and what not but haven’t come to a setting I really like.

Should I just turn HDR off on the Xbox when playing RDR2? Any suggestions appreciated.

Loaded up this game for the first time in ages last night and I'm still just in love with it all. The atmosphere, the characters, the sights and sounds. I didn't really *do* anything meaningful to the story or the game. I hunted some animals I needed for the next outfit I'm crafting, completed a Master Hunter challenge, did some fishing, took out an O'Driscoll camp, climbed a mountain to take a photo of the plains, and met a random stranger.

I've said it dozens of times, but it just blows me away how much fun and tranquility I can experience while not actually doing anything of particular substance.

When does the story pick up? I need the substance

I'm like 1/3 through the game, a decent chunk into Chapter 3. It's grown on me a little bit as I've got to know the characters, but I can't imagine doing this for another 2/3.

I want to replay it but I don’t know if I can have it take over my life again.

Anyone still playing this? Started my second playthrough a few days ago, not really having touched the game too many times since I completed it after the release. I'll try to do a more thorough playthrough, probably not a 100% but at least complete all the challenges.

Trying to get the white Arabian horse that's supposed to be the best in the game is a pain in the ass, my god. Also, how the hell is it 5 years already since this game's release?

I'm on my third. My second was to get 100 percent completion which took me about 6 months. This one is to see or do anything...if there is anything left....to do. Just enjoy it. Next I wanna do a bad arthur. I get it, that it's hard to have low honor because the story tries hard to make you wanna do good, but I've been a good arthur enough that this time, I just wanna be a killer.

This is on my list to revisit this year. Crazy it's been 5 years since release, feels like it was just yesterday.

I don't think there was more to it than going to that frozen lake with appropriate clothing (stamina) and lassoing one, although maybe they don't always spawn.

I read somewhere that you can't tame this horse by lassoing it, you just have to approach it incredibly slowly and it takes patience which I don't have.

It wasn't that tough in the end, but just annoying because when you mess it up and the horse runs away, it doesn't spawn for a while.

My current playthrough I am playing evil Arthur. It's so much fun just robbing, shooting, and pillaging anyone I see just for the hell of it.
