I don't see the gamble from the player's perspective...

He potentially leaves 200+ million on the table. In 2-3 years time when he's one of the best players in the game he could easily get 10/400+ contract.

This is true, but he's now guaranteed enough money that no one descended from him might ever have to work (if its managed properly) in the event he suffers a catastrophic injury.

Put me in Franco's place and I'd take the guaranteed if discounted deal every time.
