I am curious as to what the numbers were when leading during our 6 goalie system days with Torts.

Also curious as to what they were when we went to the SCF in 13-14.

You don't expect a high CF% when leading, but the turtle slide for AV is in full effect when having the lead.

We haven't blown leads while turtling. It's human nature to keep turtling if it's been working. It was also the 6th period in less than 24 hours on the west coast.

What I have a problem with is how much Vigneault plays #22 NHL Defenseman Nick Holden when we're defending that 2 goal lead in the 3rd period. He could have broken up the bottom two pairings (which haven't been fixtures this season) and ran a better Skjei-Klein pairing. Instead, Staal-Skjei plays less because Skjei is on his offside in the defensive zone.

To be fair, Skjei didn't play well on his offside in the defensive zone. Brady had a good game in Calgary but from what I can tell, Vigneault doesn't seem to trust the 18-76 pairing in the defensive zone. We will still need a RHD eventually and Brady will go back to the left side, if I were a betting man and all.

3 days and that includes a day of long-distance travel. So really it's two days off.

Yup 2 days and then playing 2 games inside the 24 hours.

That said, I do think this team is better than they were last year, and I do think this team is among the best in the league. I will continue to believe so unless the team does eventually regress hard.

We've spent 21 minutes down 2 at even strength, 138.73 down 1 (65.13 CF%), and 218.22 minutes tied (50.55 CF).

Leading: 171 minutes up 1 (45 CF%), 104 min up 2 (34.9 CF% yikes)

I guess all of those whining the Rangers winning the 2nd of a back-to-back wasn't good enough and somehow a bad omen of what is to come are something other than people looking for the bad in the good.

Over time I think we will see Girardi's awfulness and the general issues with the defense to start to affect things more for periods of time.

But I disagree with the need to exaggerate how bad it has been this season so far. Because it hasn't been as bad as MH is trying to frame it, imo. Obviously the Defenseman are still a little below average at best.


I start looking at the context of each game, period to period. When I do I don't see any reason to seriously doubt that improvements from Staal, Skjei, the system and the forwards will keep the team playing at the overall level it has been playing at for the majority of the season.

If they do plummet it won't be surprising. I honestly don't think it should be expected to the degree MH is implying. That said, there's obviously history...horrible, horrible history...Av is still setting the roster and the RD is still a problem.

Also, the Rangers have 5 players with at least 6 goals. The Pacific Division has 5 players with exactly 6 goals.

I think there's a happy medium between how amazing they started the season while also being concerned with how the last 5 or so games have gone especially with who the opponents have been.
