Assuming the tweet is correct and it is indeed just a violation he was arraigned on, I don't think it'll have anything to do with a DUI or DWI.
Both of those offenses are considered misdemeanors (or worse) in NY state.
As far as severity of crimes in NY (and the US) it goes violation (least severe), misdemeanor, felony.
The absolute worst sentence for a violation is 15 days or less on prison (which almost never happens). Usually a fine or ACD (all charges dropped (after a period of time) is about the extent of it.
