Mark Divver reports that the first line in Providence is rolling and they might be in Boston if they keep it up. They are playing the way the Bruins want, combining skill with relentless pressure on the puck. This experience will be invaluable for rookie center JFK. (Aside—this is where Spooner struggles).
Three games into the season, there is good news and bad news for the Providence Bruins.
The good news is they have arguably the top line in the AHL in Kenny Agostino, Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson and Peter Cehlarik.
Now for the bad news: The chances of the trio remaining intact in Providence diminish with each dominant performance. “Enjoy it while it lasts,″ says P-Bruins assistant coach Trent Whitfield.
Springfield and Toronto, the two teams the P-Bruins have played to this point, had their hands full with the high-powered threesome. “We haven’t seen a line play at that level,″ Marlies coach Sheldon Keefe said after his team’s 3-2 win on Saturday. The Agostino-JFK-Cehlarik combo was involved in both P-Bruins goals that night and has been in on seven of Providence’s 10 goals this season.
“They are relentless. They track the crap out of pucks,” according to P-Bruins coach Jay Leach. “You’ve seen some lines in the past that just have more skill than everyone else. I’m not diminishing (the JFK line’s) skill, but the thing that they are doing so well is they just hound pucks. It’s fun to watch.”
“Kenny obviously drives that ship. For JFK, it’s a great learning tool for him to see how hard (Agostino) works and how hard he is on pucks. Peter Cehlarik, coming off an injury, to come out of the gates the way he has, it’s phenomenal. Good on him. He put in the work. He’s on a mission to get back to the NHL. If he keeps playing like this, I don’t think he’s too far away.″
