Rafikov is still playing in the MHL? I thought was like a junior league to the KHL. Wouldn't/shouldn't he play in the KHL? Or am I mistaken on how that works

He is still only 19.
And...? Lots of 19 year old players play in the KHL, he also entered the CHL import draft and went undrafted. I think some people actually believe he is better than he is because they think the "Russian factor" caused him to drop. But maybe, just maybe he's no more than a 7th round pick.

I know nothing about him has stood out to me in the few games I saw him play in the Subway super series, but that is an extremely small sample size.

I think you read too much into my post. I don't think Rafikov is ever going to play for our organization. However, it's not uncommon for decent players to still be playing in junior leagues at 19. I also don't know anything about how deep Yaroslavl is at defense or what their developmental philosophy is.

Their blueline can't be that deep undrafted 18 year old defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov is getting some time with the KHL club. I've never been too high on Rafikov, but hey he's better than Eric Roy

KHL is a pretty political league, could be that. Could be he'll see more playing time for the MHL team, could be he doesn't have a contract with teh KHL but does with MHL (I don't know the specific intracacies of KHL contracts). Could be any number of things. Including that he's just anohter 7th round.

Probably best to forget about him and if he dominates or comes over, worry about hit then.

to me a telling part was being passed over in the CHL import draft

Mason McDonald made his season debut tonight. He stopped 28 of 31 shots in a 4-3 win over his former team the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

I have also added season start dates for the prospects no longer in camo who's seasons have not yet started.

I do not understand the levels of Russian hockey.

As previously discussed Rafikov has been with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the MHL, but he is now listed as a member of HK Ryazan of the VHL.

Wiki says they are both tier 2 teams, but I believe that may be wrong as it lists Loko Yaroslavl and HK Ryazan as apart of the same league, which they are clearly not (I went to the VHL website for verification)

Upon further looking this appears to be a step up? Maybe? The VHL is the former RUS-2 league from what I can tell and the MHL is the Junior league. So I would guss this is like going from the Russian CHL to the Russian AHL?

If anyone knows anything about Russian Leagues please help :help:

But anyways in 5 games the Rushan Factor has 2 assists in 5 games with 2 penalty minutes and is a -1

I think VHL is kind of like a KHL relegation league? Don't quote me in that though.

I think several Euro leagues to that with their tier 2 league don't they? The top team or 2 move up, the bottom team or 2 move down. I know the Swiss leagues do this anyways.

The KHL doesn't employ traditional promotion/relegation, though I think teams have been swapped out for economic reasons. But the Finnish(since a couple years back now), Swedish, Norwegian, Swiss leagues at least use such a system.

The VHL appears to be the current feeder league for the KHL, in the process of implementation. It doesn't seem like Ryazan is actually the team affiliated with Yaroslavl, but that information might be outdated. I wish I could read Russian. That would make this a whole lot easier.

Everything I have found says that HK Ryazan is without affiliation from a KHL team, so I think the information you found is similar to what I have found.

It's like he was released by Yaroslavl and signed on with an independent team in another league.

The only thing I have been able to confirm for sure though more search is that the MHL is an under 20 league like the CHL and the VHL is not an under 20 league. But looking through some VHL rosters it does not appear that there are many drafted players in the league. I really hope this is not a step down for him.

Not sure if this is good, bad or irrelevant but Rafikov is the youngest player on his new team

It could be a loan. Loans are commonplace in Sweden, at least. It can be a good thing for the development of a young player who is too good for the top junior league but can't consolidate a spot on the main roster. For example W. Nylander was loaned out from Modo in the SHL to two different teams in Allsvenskan(second tier) in separate stints last season.

NCAA play started tonight.

Jankowski had an assist, was +1 and went 8/16 on faceoffs. He was centering the top line!
Gillies got shelled a bit. 5 goals against on 25 shots. The OT winner for Ohio being just 28 seconds in.
Gilmour is hurt. Apparently hurting from Flames prospect camp.

Hickey was +4 but had no points for his debut with BU

Harrison was held off the scoresheet for Colgate.

I really think Janko is going to have a strong season and surprise people. Our center depth in the organization is going to push him. He's been somewhat forgotten over the course of this past year, and he may very well still be a good player for us. It's fantastic that he was on the top line!

Cheers, AF. That's great news that Janko is the top line centre. Thought it wouldn't happen until his senior year. I think this is the year he can hold at PPG pace.
