So, Ellis Granlund and Duchene for a good F or high first rounder.
May not be with a playoff team, since they would need all their scoring.
But a playoff team may go for scoring from 3 guys versus one. Everybody thinks they can jumpstart Duchene. Sutter may be able to beat him into playing the game seriously.

Did the salary cap get abolished? Who's taking on $14M+ in cap long term without sending a whole lot of flotsam back our way?

Sorry, I don't have the link, but I'm seeing reference on the Habs and Jets boards that Dreger mentioned Poile's asking price from Winnipeg for Ekholm is 1st+Heinola (with maybe an additional plus). That's a pretty big ask, so it's sounding like Poile's probably only looking to trade him if we can get an overpayment (as was starting to be speculated around here).

No way Winnipeg is going to do that, but I would 100% be on board with that trade from a Preds perspective.

If you are Poile why would you not ask that? Despite what people think here outside of a small group of teams he would be the best Dman on the team.

Looking pretty decent in the standings now, so in keeping with Poile's tradition of deadline pickups I'm going with: Luke Glendening + a 3rd for Preds 1st.

Flyers fan here - What are the Preds' needs?

Saw a post earlier around an Ellis for Sanheim deal, and a rumor earlier about Arvidsson, and thought of a potential shake up deal for Philly but still beneficial but not entirely sure if it fits Nashville.

To Phi:

Ellis - $6.75M x 6 years - 30 years old
Arvidsson - 4.25M x 3 years - 27 years old

To Nsh:

Voracek - 8.25M x 3 years - 30 years old
Sanheim - 3.25M x 1 year (RFA) - 25 years old. Probably hasn't earned much of a raise (maybe around $4M) but has top pair upside.

Adjust with picks and lower tiered assets.

The Flyers reasons for trading the above two: Shake-up trade (Voracek is a leader and still a productive, puck possession monster who has lapses defensively that enough of the team has). Has 29 points in 33 games. Sanheim hasn't quite put it together yet, but is a tall, lanky, fluid skating defenseman that can play both sides but is prone to soft play. Ghost has played better this year as well and is a smaller but similar in a role compared to Sanheim.

The Flyers needs for acquiring the above two: They need a leader type top pair, RH shot D-man to play with Provorov, and a shoot-first winger. Flyers have several "pass first players" (Couts, Giroux, Hayes, Patrick) and they simply don't shoot enough. Arvidsson has regressed but hopefully we can pick it up with the number of playmakers on the team. This also saves the Flyers from their expansion problem because they would just protect Myers, Provorov and Ellis, and leave Ghost exposed as normal.

Here's my attempt at Nashville rationale, but I don't know the team well so feel free to educate me.

Nashville reasons for trading the two: Shake up deal with the d-corp. I feel Ellis is the most expendable, and the team can push for more offensive help. Team can build around Josi and Ekholm, and have a potential replacement in Sanheim at a lower cost who can grow.

Nashville reasons for acquiring the above two: Voracek is a consistent .8-.9 PPG player and would excel with a player like Forsberg. He can hit PPG in the right chemistry, and is a puck carrier and protector and line driver and can perhaps re-vitalize one of Duchene or Johanssen with his great passing ability. Sanheim isn't as good as Ellis, but can serve in a top4 role for now but has top pair potential. Good, solid asset.

Salaries match out. Top line winger for top pair defenseman, with the upside assets tilted in benefit of the winger versus the d-man (i.e., Sanheim > Arvidsson, Ellis > Voracek). Pure hockey trade if the value can be aligned.

Can't say this moves the needle much for us. Voracek is still a fine offensive player but no interest in adding another big contract for a player in that age group, unless we're moving Johansen or Duchene out. Sanheim sounds like what we already have plenty of. I doubt we'd move Ellis/Arvy together but the object of either would be a young top 6 forward prospect/roster player. I'd think for both it would need an even higher-quality one.

Let’s hope our real deadline doesnt look like the mock one being done rn. At the point we’re at now I’m guessing we hold onto granlund and haula and wait for injured players to come back

I don't think it's a horrible thought process or even offer but I think if the Preds are trading a player like Ellis or Arvy it will be to get younger and Voracek doesn't do that.

Yeah, I would not be going for a player turning 32 who makes $8.25M in Voracek's situation if I was trading Ellis/Arvy. That is going exactly the wrong direction for our team. Plus Voracek is more of a playmaker, and we need more finishing... even though Arvy isn't finishing so well anymore either, I don't see any kind of fit here. Sanheim doesn't fit for us either since we already have Josi and Ekholm on LD.

I would rather just trade Ellis for prospects or picks. Like the Frost/Zamula types people were floating earlier in the misguided Ekholm suggestions. No need to make things any bigger than that. And it can be after the Expansion Draft afaic. (Although that's presumably not what Poile would be thinking, if he was actually entertaining the idea of trading a D).

How about nothing? nothing?
I think it would still be reasonable to hope that some team might value Borowiecki or Richardson. They have pretty good track records and well-defined niches that teams have usually valued at the Trade Deadline. Tough character defenseman. Faceoff specialist PK forward. No big contracts or cap hits.

Granted, they never lived up to those niches with us. But so what. It's a small sample. I don't think teams would overlook their past reputations just based on those tiny samples with us so far when everything was broken for us.

If we got a couple late round picks for those two, I'd be satisfied. 5th rounders even.

I can't see how either of them really plays more for us. We found Harpur is better than Borowiecki, and if we run into any troubles we've still got other guys to plug in on D. And likewise our depth forward spots are pretty much solidified right now.

But of course with the completely opaque injury status on our team, who even knows if either of them are expected to play again this year or not. Maybe they are too injured to even be able to trade, we would never know.

There is no significant difference between getting the 5th rounder and doing nothing, of course. But I'd rather have the 5th round pick than nothing. Who wouldn't? :dunno:

I like the Philly trade in terms of swapping Ellis and Sanheim but yeah, Voracek with that cap hit is a bit too rich. I wouldn't give up on Arvy yet, either.

No way would I do this trade. I would rather keep who we have if this was the offer. Ellis for Konecny base trade I could get on board with. Or maybe some young prospects and picks. We have farrance davies who I would want to see in action before I would trade for sanheim

To me Voracek here would be just like Granlund, Turris, Johansen, Duchene here. He'll be 32 next season. If we're buying core pieces we should get younger, I don't think we're a Voracek away from a cup with our guys and in the division we're in.
Yup, and if we're trading Ellis and Arvy then we aren't looking to compete for a Cup, we're re-tooling at minimum.

Batshit crazy idea

1st + Duchene +Tomassino

for

Jack Eichel
Is it backwards upside down day ?
If they gave up Eichel for that crap Buffalo would be enveloped in riots.
Eichel is still a top 5 in the NHL kind of guy, along with McDavid, Matthews, Drasaitl, and pick one from Mackinnon / Ovy / Marner / Kane / Marchand.
