I'd like the Avs to spread out the wealth a bit if they aren't going to be able to add more talent up front.

Kerfoot-MacKinnon-Rantanen
Landeskog-Jost-Andrighetto
Calvert-Soderberg-Wilson
Nieto-Kamenev-Compher

Zadorov-Johnson
Cole-Barrie
Nemeth-Girard

Varlamov
Grubauer

When the games are tight or we need a goal reunite the 1st line, but we can't throw all of our best players on one line with the lack of talent we have up front. Who knows though, maybe the kids put it together this season and start producing.

Observations:

- 44 out of 50 contracts in the organization after signing our 5 RFAs.
- Really need a second line scorer for the Avs. Package a tweener or two with a pick and/or prospect, but bring in some help for Jost.
- Rumors of both Lindholm and Boikov going back to Europe. Would free up playing time for youngsters, but Avs will still likely add a veteran defenseman for the Eagles.
- Definitely some AHL forwards to sign. Need probably a proven RW scorer to push all of them down the lineup, and a proven AHL veteran C since Shvy/Dick/Saig is very, very young. Probably three or four forwards to bring in.

Bourque in before Wilson mate?

Wilson was a complete disappointment, oft-injured and ineffective when he did play. He was a terrible trade. Bourque proved many doubters wrong by playing hard and making the tough plays for the team. Wilson is the more skilled and enters his final year. He might be given some ice time to showcase his skill for a trade, but does not deserve to play over Bourque.

Two Rivers
I slept on it and feel a litte better, though I'm still hoping Sakic is able to nab a Skinner type in the dog days of summer. The year of 'please god, let the kids show up'.

Positives
  • The Varly-Gruby tandem is going to be awesome.
  • The defense does look much better and deeper than it did last year. It will be interesting to see what happens assuming Makar signs out of college this year. Hopefully we get to see some Timmins/Meloche call ups when injuries eventually happen.
  • Agruably the best top line in the NHL last year.
Negatives
  • That second line is not a top six line.
  • Realistically Bednar is going to play the Soderberg line as the second line, which is above their caliber.
  • We only have four top-six forwards if you count Jost.
