If you are looking for sizeable defensive defensemen, there are plenty in the 2nd-3rd round. Will Skahan, Ej Emery, Matvei Shuravin, Stian Solberg, Gabriel Eliasson, etc. I'm sure a couple slip into the first, but there seems to be a lot of defense first big guys in this class that go in this range.

Lots of amazing defenseman, but I remain high on both Catton, and Demidov. Even if they both end up on the wing, they have dynamic offensive skill that strongly suggest first-line talent.

I liked Pickford coming into the year but thought he didn't play well even if the team around him wasn't great. Not enough offense atm from the rest to be worth a pick imo but could be picked next year/get a elc if they improve. Don't watch any BCHL other than the new "Alberta" division.

Pastro might get a look in the later rounds. Not a particularly strong crop in the BCHL this year, they're kind of transitioning to a 19-20 year old league.

Luke Ashton might get a look as a 6'6 overage D.

Logan Sawyer from the Brooks Bandits might be a sleeper. Great shot and speedy as well.

sawyer is definitely interesting. i saw a little of him, but thought he held onto pucks way too long (could be that his teammates aren't very good).

jack pridham seems to be the guy of interest - you like him?

Pridham is good. NHL size and decent speed. Headed to BU so it would be easier to keep track of his progress next year. Also son of the Leafs AGM.

anything interesting this year in the AJHL? i saw mathieu taillefer once. when sawyer ended up in BCHL, wasn't sure anyone else was tracking well.

not much I don't mind Sawyer or Free on Brooks and Zaremba on Sherwood Park but strong bias towards Zaremba. Dahlen on Blackfalds is interesting started slow then got hurt but since back from injury has been close to ppg, also is a cousin of Roger McQueen.

May I ask what caused Catton to drop a few spots in that month?

In short, I'm less certain he'll be a C in the NHL, and I don't think he has the same ability to run a PP that Demidov has. I have him ranked as a 1W in his prime, and I think I would rather draft someone like Lindstrom who I think has a better chance at being a Top-6 C, with an outside chance at being a 1C. There's not really much separating 2-9 in my opinion, as they all have attributes that are very compelling, but also notable flaws. Potential top pairing D, both L and R shot, top6 C with size, smallish skill Ws.

Totally fair. I appreciate it. I'm going to the draft this year, so this is the first year I've really hardcore gotten into prospects, so I just like seeing what people think.

I had someone recently tell me that Catton has a better IQ than Lindstrom, so he believes he's closer to a center in the NHL for that. Just fun to see the dueling perspectives.

Not high on Connelly(off ice issues aside, though it can be argued they might affect on ice/chemistry)? Elick?

I think Helenius is going to be good, too, and has been underrated on a lot of lists.

I downgraded Connelly because of questions about maturity/character. I think if he learned from his mistakes I'd be comfortable higher, but not being able to interview him I take conservative approach and assume that he might still have some issues. Note, that this isn't in the Mitch Miller I wouldn't touch him manner, but in the "does he get it" and will he be guy you are going to want on team.

As for Elick, not sure if you think he is too low or too high, as both would make some sense. He has what you are looking for in terms of size and skating that rival the guys at top of d list, but his puck game isn't up to that level. I look at him and Emery both guys who with some development can be the type of big-minute shutdown d that teams are always looking for, but whose somewhat limited offensive upside keeps them from being what teams want out of their 1d.

Thanks for the list! What would you answer those who say Helenius is great in Liiga now, but lacks any elite trait that would make him a star in the NHL?

He's shown not only the ability to stick in the Finnish league but has consistently had moments of carrying his line against older, stronger competition and has the IQ to do about everything in Liiga. He's a bit small but he isn't afraid to play physical, and again dominate in that regard against men. I think he has a game suited for the top-six and could do so at all three positions.
