I was wondering, has anyone taken the time and effort to make a "point per $"-standing? Would be interesting to see dollars spent translated into points. I'm guessing teams like Buffalo Sabres aren't doing too well, spending to the cap (and beyond) with only four wins. Washington Capitals probably not doing to good either.

Interesting idea. It would probably be best if fans of individual teams submit information that can then be compiled. Seems like that would be the easiest. I'm at work, but if I get time I'll give some info for the Preds.

Preds/Sens/Devils probably top 3 in some order.

All have strong starts to the season and aren't anywhere near the cap ceiling.

Capgeek used to have something called bargain hunters on their site, where they calculated how much money players got per point. they seem to have taken it off the site though :dunno:

Nashville Predators:

Martin Erat: 7 points - $4.5m Cap Hit = $642,857 per point. Actual salary: $5.5m = $785,714 per point.

Colin Wilson: 7 points - $2m Cap Hit = $285,714 per point. Actual salary: $1.5m = $214,285 per point.

Brandon Yip: 5 points - $750k Cap Hit/Salary = $150,000 per point.

Kevin Klein: 5 points - $1.35m Cap Hit/Salary = $270,000 per point.

David Legwand: 4 points - $4.5m Cap Hit = $1,125,000 per point. $4m Actual Salary = $1m per point.

Patric Hornqvist: 4 points - $3.08m Cap Hit = $770.750 per point. $3.25m Actual Salary = $812,500 per point.

Ryan Ellis: 4 points - $1.44m Cap Hit = $360,000 per point. $810k Actual Salary = $202,500 per point.

Gabriel Bourque: 4 points - $618,333 = $154,583 per point. $635,000 Actual Salary = $158,750 per point.

And just to be fair, Shea Weber: 1 point - $7,857,143 Cap Hit = $7,857,143 per point. $14m Actual Salary = $14m per point.

As a team: 56 points - $54,132,572m in total cap payroll = $966,653 per point.

If someone else wants to finish the Preds for me that'd be awesome.

I think we should use last year's point stats, or pro-rate the salary to the games played so far.

Yeah that would be better I think. I just quickly did that while at work. If I get time later on I'll run through last year's points totals compared to salary.

I think it would be more interesting and easier to do on a team payroll vs. team standings points basis.

Definitely easier. I couldn't get cap geek's archive to actually work, so I used numbers pulled from USA Today. They listed actual salaries and not cap hits.

2011-2012 Nashville Predators Pay Roll (not including Radulov) was $54,014,000 (or close). They had 104 points in the standings at the end of the regular season. That is just over $519,365 per point in the standings.

I think the OP needs to specify what he means by "points." Do you mean goals + assists or standings points?

Blues have a 20 ml in cap space? Am i seeing things?!

Something wrong with me or this?

It's pretty remarkable how good the Blues are considering their spending.

It's legit. But keep in mind they will need to re-sign Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk and Berglund as well as a couple of other RFA's. They will have no trouble fitting the team whole under the new cap, though.

Anaheim Ducks for 2011-2012. I only used players that played at least 20 games though, however it wouldn't be a bad idea to consider pro-rating based on games played.

I've always thought this would be a cool metric to help compare the 'value' of players when taking their contract into account
