I recall back in Hawerchuk's second season, Ferguson hired a nutrition specialist for the team because all the young players were eating so poorly (McDonald's seven days a week, etc.). Ferguson said it was to blame for a really bad stretch where the team was getting soundly outplayed each game.

While I've never lurked at the Langside or Marion McDonalds on the lookout for players on their way to & from MTS Centre make their way thru the drive thru for their fast food fix, in todays day & age I say far from "loads" of NHL players have fast food included in the diet. NHL players are some of the best conditioned athletes on the planet.

I did live next door & shared a garage with a girl who married one of the Moose. Players were frequently over & all had impeccable diets & these were the young ones. They certainly drank tho!

Apparently Ovechkin drinks coke on the bench & does so from an unmarked bottle after the NHL told him to stop drinking directly from the can.

While I'm sure there are those that do have poor diets, in todays NHL they are the exception not the norm.

I’m not suggesting athletes have poor diets, just saying they indulge. Justin Verlander was well known for eating Taco Bell before every start and Michael Phelps was a frequent visitor to McDonalds…..perhaps unsurprisingly .

And in that era half of them would follow up that meal with a dart. It’s hard to compare eras. Mike Keenan was a hard ass because he removed the ashtrays from the Blackhawks locker room in the late 80s and made them smoke in the hallway. Such a tyrant!

Lol he's clearly photo bombing it, I think he even got criticized a lot for the unprofessionalism. Maybe I'm juvenile but I always found it kinda funny, besides the only person he makes a fool out of is himself, I fail to see the harm in that. But I also can't take the notion of hockey players as "professionals" who wear suits very seriously. I blame the cultural gap.

Yeah I liked his comments. He seems very upbeat and positive and it looks likenhe will be coming into camp in excellent shape.

I also liked his comments on playing a more new aged give and go game with the Russians in junior. I think that is the type of game we need to play this year.

Columbus would be the 4th largest city in Canada. I have been there on business quite a few times. Seemed pretty urban to me but I am from Winnipeg.

Then things have changed. I've spent some time there and found Columbus to be very quiet. Especially at night. But mostly I'm referring to the political differences.
