I kind of get the feeling that Hextall is making trades he does not want to make. I think he *could* be a good GM, but didn't we see similar issues with Rutherford, where he was making deals that he didn't think the Penguins should be making?

Low key, Nashville fans knew this was the 2nd best deal for Poile at the deadline.

2nd isn't much, but I think most expected we would pay to move Granlund out.

Wasn't it put out there that ownership was telling Rutherford to go for it at all costs? I'm not a Pens fan, and I'm not anywhere near Pennsylvania, so I don't exactly follow much beyond what is fed to us from our own media, so

Man did Nashville make out like bandits at this years deadline.

1st 1st 2nd 2nd 2nd 3rd 4th 4th 5th - Reid Schaefer Cal Foote and Tyson Barrie who they will flip at next years deadline and 10.25 in cap

I was shocked Granlund had term when i heard they got a 2nd did Hextall even scout him this year?

I mean this trade made me upset at how little we got back for Nino by comparison
Especially given the team they traded him to. Well, I guess they had no thought that we'd manage to hang around in the playoff race when they executed their Trade Deadline plan. Still. Straight to the division rival for a lukewarm return. Oh well.

Hard to make time for scouting when it's siesta hour all day every day at the Sleepy household.

It was much like the Ellis trade ( and that was before he got injured ), moving the contract was the win, anything else you got out of it was just icing on the cake.

Predators will have 13 picks this year and finish ahead of the Penguins.

One of the good things about Granlund is that his contract has zero trade or movement protection.

So a team that needs to add cap could bring him in and give him a premium position and increase his worth and then trade him anywhere.
Yeah but they’d probably have to pay a 2nd to get rid of him which means they would end up paying 2 seconds for him scoring 5 points in 20 games.

Dont worry granny will do better next season
On a wing with players that can benefit from his vision his passing, PP time, and no more than ~16mins per game. Coaches keep trying to use him as a center and overplaying him in two-way roles because he's versatile, intelligent, and seems to be a "will do whatever the coach asks" type. He can be a really good complimentary winger if he is sheltered and managed the right way.

Is getting 1 point per 1 million a good deal?

Even when the trade was made, this was pretty universally considered a bad deal. Quite unbelievable that there was no retainment on this.

Should’ve traded for Boeser.
(As desperate Canucks fans were saying)

His stat line since the trade deadline:
GP 19
G 6
A 8
PTS 14
+4

Or

JT Miller as was rumoured:
GP 19
G 10
A 14
PTS 24
+6

Instead you got Granlund:
GP 20
G 1
A 4
PTS 5
+2

Now you don’t get playoffs, the Canucks still need more draft picks and ended up with a worse lottery position, and Nashville profits.

Boeser would have been in the dog house three games in with Mike "I did shit 5 years ago" Sullivan....

The biggest problem was usage. Nylander, Poehling etc. are hardly considered offensive players? Granlund is best used as a passer/setup guy on the Top6. He isnt a checkingline player. Also, paying 5M/yr for such is stupid. Hextall bought someone he didnt need and looks like he didnt even have a clue about who/what Granlund is?
