Imagine giving Engvall 2.25 as part of your plan to re-shape our bottom 6. When he said re-shape I thought he meant getting rid of all zero value playoff assets.

There is zero risk of us missing the playoffs, in fact less than zero risk if such a thing exists. As a result, I don't care for players like Engvall.

However if he sees Engvall as trade capital I can get behind that. He did receive some calls on Engvall last deadline. Perhaps he wants to cash in this time. Let's just hope Engvall doesn't degenerate back to a 4th liner next season. It was as early as 20/21 his coach was still benching him. With the exception of the empty netters he looked closer to his benched form in the playoffs.
Fine, I'll meet people halfway on the trade value angle.

One year deal so the trade route makes sense. A 2 year deal is harder to sell (at 2.25) if he regresses a bit. Some bubble teams that see playoffs as a question mark can use an Engvall. He has some moments over the long 82 game season. For a contender looking to actually secure a cup, Engvall goes near the bottom of my wait list as far as bottom 6 options go.

Did anyone watch games lastyear Engvall was solid his only issue is finding the back of the net, but he creates alot of plays and is one of our best forecheckers....too be honest he has one of the highest hockey IQ's on the team.

Its Tavares & Kerfoot that need to step up there game that's what 14-15M in cap.

Engvall has zero relevance to the upcoming top 5 finish this regular season. Leave him in or take him out the regular season will be easy. First line of JT and Marner usually cover Matthews injuries in the regular season. Don't insult the Leaf Logo thinking Engvall is a concern.

If nobody here can be sold that our regular season success takes a dent without Engvall (if you're pro Engvall you're most likely pro-Leaf and on my side about the regular season, and if you're anti-Engvall I already have your vote), then nobody should have a problem if others would rather not have his new cap hit on the team.

Can you imagine not being completely satisfied with serial failure? What is wrong with these people?

Well…every season is a serial failure if you don’t win the Stanley Cup and it’s been like that since 67. Shouldnt have to be a constant crying fest because some player didn’t score a goal in the playoffs.

That’s sports….win the championship or it’s a failure.

It’s kinda laughable thinking success is getting past the first rd.

It means squat if you don’t win it all.

But carry on like 12 yr olds….it’s great constructive discussions I see.

This contract will keep Engvall extra motivated. I think he should be able to match last season's production and earn his salary.

Hot Take: Mid to low tier trade deadline acquisition has over 88% odds of having a greater impact than Engvall in the playoffs. 88 to start my week off with a shoutout to everyone's no1 favorite player Wild Bill.

Not down with your giraffe friend, sorry.

Hotter take

They only should have signed him for about a half of a season so 1.125, hopefully that giraffe can change its spots and score more often than that bum Marner did.

Hottest take: If joey anderson and Pierre Engvall went into the boards in the playoffs, my money is on joey anderson coming out with the puck. Leafs should have allocated $0 to Engvall over a full season once he became > 2 mil.
It's hot in here.

It's a confusing extension.

To avoid salary arbitration, only to award him money that is probably higher than what he'd get through arb, just to walk him to UFA next year, is bizarre. At that price, I would have expected the Leafs to buy at least 1 of Engvall's UFA years.

Your thesis is muddled. If it sounds like 12 yos carrying on then I can't for the life of me understand why you've been reading it. What does that make you? An 11 yo emo kid? Either way this has got a drunk-at-the-end-of-the-bar-looking-to-start-a-fight vibe to it.

It's 250k more than I would have wanted to pay and it's more frustrating they couldn't get another year at that price...I think you can do better with 2.25M and 3.5M Kerfoot is making to re-shape the team.

Thesis isn’t muddled…it’s not complicated. Win it all ….everything else is a disappointment and nothing is wrong with that.

No fight…I just don’t understand the whining over every little thing. Like I said….like my grandkids…haha

One good thing now because I finally registered is I think I have the ability to mute or block the constant whiners.

Good content from others tho.

And sorry…I’m not a drinker or go to bars.

3 posts and right to the ignore list. Congratulations!

I already had you on my list so no big loss

I suspect there was a degree of concern about arbitration - at the very minimum the Leafs likely not near certain they'd win.

Imo the contract reads like the front office valuing quick cost certainty with the deal so they could plan out their remaining moves before the season

It's called Engvalsecondlinitis - apparently quite contagious.

It's made its way to the media, but I suspect patient zero is on this board.
The hot takes are most weird right after a first round loss and at the end of preseason against scrub teams.

That's why the hfboards off season is sandwiched with a poll where 90% don't keep Nylander and ending with Engvall on the 2nd line.

Puck drop can't come fast enough.

Well I think you're sticking to your neck out on this one.

Does Keefe use these numbers because there's still a good possibility that he doesn't use Engvall on the 2nd line.
