One thing I’m noticing about the Pens D is they’re not selling out to get loose pucks first. They hold up to avoid getting hit instead of rushing toward the puck, putting it where they want it to go and then brace for the hit. Caps forwards keep getting to loose puck first and chipping it into soft ice which creates another race... ...which the Pens D often allow themselves to lose so they don’t put themselves in a vulnerable spot.

It’s a small detail but it’s leading to extra zone time for the Caps this game and it directly caused that last goal.

Same shit, different turd. If key players aren't carrying this team (Murray, Sid, Geno, Kessel), it's a mess.

Changes probably have to be made personnel-wise, as well as coaching-wise. Not saying to fire anyone behind the bench, but they need to completely change their approach to their defensive system and structure. We've been a shitshow defensively, forwards as well as blueliners, going back through last playoffs and last season. We won on the back of elite, timely performances by the aforementioned players at clutch times. It's been a mess for a while, we just have the talent to have won in spite of it.

And that's to say nothing of our new, profound inability to score goals. Which is kind of impressive given the talent we have up and down the lineup. But it's pretty tough to score goals when you're scrambling around defensively like you have no idea what you're doing.

PGT is up. Going out on a limb that the Pens won't surrender another goal.
