They have 66 points left on the board, they'll need about 44 of them to have a shot I'd guess.
That would give them 96 points. Flyers are on pace for 91 points which would be good for 3rd in the division. So going something like 17-10-6 (doable) the rest of the way might be good enough.

It's official. Gatineau Olympiques' head coach and Roy's former assistant in Quebec Benoit Desrosiers has been hired by the Islanders.

It's weird to me that they would bring on a new coach and wouldn't fire the dude responsible for the worst PK in the league. I understand keeping McLean on but I'm surprised Houda is still around

Houda was able to run a pretty good PK last year. And everyone wanted to shoot McLean to the moon after the Isles awful PP last season. So bizarre that they've done such a 180...

It paid off

Congrats
Indeed

It’s hard to believe the metamorphosis this team has undergone with Roy at the helm. I had high hopes but what he has done with this team should it go far in the playoffs is Jack Adams material once again for this guy. Phenomenal coaching!

Same players under the last coach but he made this team look totally inept. Roy got em playing like world beaters. Playing like winners again.

The one thing I noticed under Roy was the improved offensive output from palmeiri. More goals, splints and a 50% increase in shots

The improvements in GA is a result of just keeping their defensive game simple and focusing more on generating offense with quick short passes to leave the D zone. Its night and day from watching this team panicking and screening their own goaltender with a terrible zone defense and just switching to an aggressive man on man stop em at the blue line defensive system and let the goaltenders take care of the rest approach. It’s such a relief to watch. (Especially watching Romanov warm up his hitting game.) Even with this teams renewed focus on offense under Roy it is actually better defensively showing that you can have your cake and eat it too. Special teams are still a concern though. I’m just hoping they stay away from those situations in the playoffs. Either way as a fan I just feel good with this team entering and playing against any team this playoff season as it gives this lineup at least a fighting chance to beat anyone rather than entering the playoffs with pretty much the results pre-determined. I’m glad the team gets another shot at the Canes without one hand tied behind their backs. Its going to be a war!

His assistants are mostly still Lambert's, and his one guy didn't come in until later. That could have an impact on the PP/PK numbers.

It's also about more games with Pelech and Pulock back from injury, and less Scott Mayfield who was easily the worst Islander this year (may be due to injury) per minute.

So, it is hard to say, but also NYI definitely did need a new voice.

End of the year the D settled down and Roy had a somewhat clean slate to work with.

Lambert did get a bit shafted on that, but it is what it is.
