one less competitor for ben johnson
I never felt Carolina was a legit contender for the top OC on the HC market. Too many holes and lots of options for Johnson.

Think the Washington job makes the most sense for him. Reset from scratch with QB in the draft. Extra second and third rounders to build the roster. Snyder is gone.

Canales, big jump on a short period of time. First couple of years will be bumpy but a HC salary is life altering.

Team that cuts Baker Mayfield hires coordinator coaching Baker Mayfield
Only been an OC for 1 season. Seems rather quick to rise to HC but that’s how it has been going for young offensive coaches these days.

It is funny to see them hire someone who made it work with baker.

9-8 record with TB isn’t amazing but given that they were at like $80 mill in dead cap that was a good season under those circumstances.

All that's left is the Seattle job. Sounds like the Commies are hiring Ben Johnson once the Lions season ends.
Would then leave Seattle with MacDonald as the remaining most talked about non prior HC. The other being Houston’s OC swolvik.

Is Canales considered a minority hire for TB to receive comp 3rd round picks?

Canales got a 6 year contract. So when Tepper fires him for something Tepper pushed for, Canales can sit back and just collect money for 5 and a half years.

He'll be promoted to Executive VP next year at the rate he's been going. Seemed to get a lot of love as Seattle's qb coach, though.

I think no one wanted the job and the owner realized that the only way was to give out more...

Kinda like how any desperate org starts throwing incentives to reel people in(i.e military "signing bonsues" that actually don't amount to much.)

Veteran guys probably didn't want the job but for a guy like Canales, he wasn't even really anyones radar and he may never have a chance at the top job again. SO IMO Tepper didn't need to offer 6 years, regardless it's going to be hilarious when he's paying Rhule, Reich and Canales at the same time to not work for him.

Still have to sweeten the package for him to leave Tampa and a better situation to build a resume(Mike Evans+Chris Godwin can make a career for anyone).

Tepper is a rare case in which everyone knows the job will be "difficult" and abusive. Just like the army can't find cooks or the like, so those who fail 18X(special forces training) land the worst jobs if they fail to make it.
