Classy response by a classy guy.

Younger fans might not pick it up as much, but Gartner’s record was a big deal at the time. It was his claim to fame, moreso than being the fastest skater in the league and a 700 goal scorer.

Still, this record is much more satisfying being held by Ovechkin than by Gartner.

Personally I don't want him to break #895 next year.

I think if he did that he would come into the following training camp at 300 pounds for the last year of his contract.

Haven’t been on HF for a while but that 850 in the title really hits home on how close he is.

18x30 is ridiculous to think about, 10x30 would be elite.

Also people were speculating it would take two more years but I’d wager OV does it next year, maybe even pushes for 50, can’t have a worse start than this year.

He turned what was to be an awful season into a respectable 30 goal year. you have to hand it to him. He's still in play to break the record if he can duplicate this year two more times.
Considering the Caps are due for a long rebuild, he can probably extend his contract and just stand in the left circle waiting for a one timer until he gets his 895.

And this still will be a great financial situation for the Capitals selling games for people to watch the record broken

Even though I am a Pens fan, Ovy you can't deny is a hell of a player. Didn't like him in the past but gotta respect the guy for what he's accomplished. Guy is going to beat Gretzky's goal record...GRETZKY!

I want to see him and Sid keep ripping it up against this younger generation.

I find this funny. we have been watching Sid and Ovi forever now and somehow through all the arguing on here, there seems to be a growing appreciation for both players by Caps and Pens fans. Still not rooting for the penguins in anyway but I definitely enjoy watching Sid play way more now then I did before a few years ago. That said, Sid going god mode and dragging the pens to the playoffs instead of the caps would probably right the ship a bit for a little while:laugh:

the record is kinda of the last thing for his career unless a miracle run happens which is highly unlikely. Im fine with him breaking the record and then crushing a 30 pack on the bench the rest of the contract. Think of how many players in sports ever live up to their contracts the entire time. Ovi is definitely one of the few.

ESPN: "Breaking, Washington Capitals announce a coaching change. Adam Oates and Dale Hunter reunited with Ovechkin."
“Jay Beagle and Joey Crabb to come out of retirement, join Alex Ovechkin on the top line in Washington as The Great 8 continues his chase to hunt down The Great One.”

If you know, you know :banghead:

Gotta love that Crabb-Beagle-Ovechkin 1st line with Ovi on RW. At least Ovi could make the all-star team on both RW and LW that season, on top of MVP honors.
