So....if nobody alone can make us better, it means that we are a crappy team. And if it never can happen, it means that you need to rebuild from the ground up. INCLUDING Price, Weber and so on. And that was known before the Weber deal. Which in the end means that we should have NEVER acquired him in the first place. So you need to take a stance. 'Cause people, even if you get John Tavares, ALONE, it won't be enough. So based on that...we do nothing?

People are going to be so f***ing confused if we land Tavares and this team still sucks because it is full of holes top to bottom. Probably will blame Price again.

Just the wheels turning.....Best Washington team was stunned by the Habs because of a goalie that was so incredibly hot at the time. They were robbed. And they were rewarded last night thanks to a guy who was traded for the goalie that stunned them years ago....
Kuznetsov, Ovechkin, Wilson, Eller, Carlson, Holtby, Niskanen, DSP, Oshie, Trotz, Backstrom.....they all were the best that they could be and collectively, they made this team a championship team!!

I think that true confidence comes from within, not from some coach constantly yelling at you. That's why Michel Therrien teams burn out quickly. Some guys just need confidence. It's been said that at this level of sports, it's 5% physical, 95% mental. Look at what Vegas was able to accomplish with a coach that said it's ok to make mistakes, all players make mistakes. Neither team had a coach that performed because they had a coach that was yelling at them, and constantly denigrating them. Washington won because they believed in each other.
If you have a player with shaky confidence, Michel Therrien is not the coach you want mentoring him. Only 2 types of players succeed under Therrien: the one's with contracts big enough that they don't have to listen to him and who consequently are at no risk of being punished by him and 4th line scrubs willing to debase themselves in order to win his favor and collect an NHL paycheck. But if you've got a player like Eller, who occasionally needs a pat on the back, Therrien isn't the guy who's going to give him one. He destroys players like that. At the end of the day, Therrien is a schoolyard bully who gets his kicks out of picking on the weaker kids. Only he doesn't call it bullying; he calls it "making them better people".

This is exactly it.

This management has shown a consistent pattern of making poor decisions and letting go of players that made this team better. And today, the team is worse for it. You cannot deny the facts. This team would be better today if we still had Subban, Radulov, Eller, Markov, Sergachev, etc... instead of the guys we got in exchange/to replace them. You cannot deny this. Bergevin has ****ed up time after time after time, and NO, sorry, getting Dale Weise and Philip Danault doesn't suddenly absolve him of his repeated ****-ups.

With all those players, we missed the playoffs or got booted out of the first round. Time to jettison the rest of the 27 and over leadership and bring in different ammunition.

Honestly you made a big deal about Eller improving the team but with Tavares we’d still suck?

That being said, barring getting Tavares I’d gut the team.

With Tavares we still need to fix the defense AND we still need to replace Eller. At least if we had Eller there would be fewer holes to fill.

Yes yes, I keep hearing about how guys like Eller are so easy to find. Except, they aren't, because we don't have one. Washington didn't either, but now they do.

So will people finally stop with the choking narrative after being wrong every series....nah probably not

Also wow Eller stepping up as usual a possession monster, scoring big goals, stepping up in the line up when injury occurred, playing pp1 setting up some nice goals, being on the ice in the final minutes to protect the lead. Man did the Habs ever waste a great player.

Congrats to Washington, Seriously that as a total blast, one of the more memorable cup run ad cup celebrations ive ever seen in my life, lots of emotion, really loved seeing Ovechkin want it like that, he came through for the team and the TEAM came through for him, oshies and holtbys and beagles and kuznetsovs

Cool to see ovechkin and backstroms 10 year journey finally culminate in a championship, dont think i ever wanted a Cup so bad for a player tho, again it was truly a joy to see them slay all their demons

What more can you say about Devantes 3 goals in the finals or the way Eller played...LOL wow... you just got to love how it makes bergevin look and the way it must make him think lol..

What a goal by Devante to tie it, one of the nicest ive ever seen really considering the moment, and LARS scores the stanley cup winning goal?? is this real life?? REALLY? so proud of my boy

WOOO one more time, that was such a sight to see, the NHL is better for Ovechkin having won this thing, Ovechknis face and tears as he received the cup will live with me forever, thanks bud, congratulations

Congrats to Ovie for winning a cup and cementing his legacy. When his name comes up for the HOF no one can put that asterix next to his name anymore and say he didn't win a cup.

Congrats to the whole team in Washington. It was a long journey for them but they finally overcame the label of chockers.

and if NJ didn't buy out DSP they would have a cup and if St louis still had Oshie they would of won the cup, and if Pens still had Oprik they would have won the cup, and if Nash still had Trotz they would have the cup.

Maybe FLA wins the cup with Mars and GG, or CBJ with Karlsson still on their team.

Should we go through every player that made the finals and rag on all their former teams and GM's?

Good on Wash and their players for stepping up and winning the cup. If only we had a Kuz(instead of a Tinordi) and an Ovie then we would have the right to complain about the DSP's and Ellers of the world.

Like I said in 2013:
http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/eller.1340525/page-3#post-58991007

We would regret it if we trade him. We did it and here we are. Really happy for Eller though. He deserves his success 100%!
We'd be regretting it either way because either way we'd have still been a bottom-feeder this season. Do you really think that if we hadn't dealt Eller we'd be sitting here today saying "It sucks that we missed the playoffs but at least we've still got Eller"?

I agree, some people are really clueless. MB is inept, we all know that, there is no really need to make things up. DSP is good example, true journey man in the league. Forget other teams that trade him away, only Habs made a mistake to get rid of him. Of course.

Yeah.During his stay in Montreal, DSP spent more time eating and partying (with Galchy and Beaulieu) than trying to get in shape and play good hockey. Good for him, he finally woke up and salvage his career.

As for Eller, MB decided he had enough good centermen in Galchenyuk (yes he was playing center back then), Plekky, DD and Danault. The problem is that he gave two very good second round picks to get and sign Shaw ........ Since June 2016, MB has done lots of harm to that team.

No need for us... their fan bases are doing it for us.

STL: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/oshie-factor.2032891/

NJD (though mostly DSP praise rather than pitchforks to thei GM): http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threa...son-iii-stanley-cup-playoffs.2475807/page-191

PIT (but more discussion about MAF): http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/around-the-nhl-time-to-root-for-vegas.2495183/page-76

NASH (though more supporting Trots): http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/around-the-nhl-viii-2017-2018-season.2212559/page-83

End of the day, all fan bases are like us.

MB and MT and their toxic personalities, have helped decimate the Habs, instead of helping them build a team, those two clowns tore it down...

Egos and personalities did this to da Habs...................................Eller took the high road last night, but he did say, " I am in the right place, NOW "
