That's not true. Tony Parker was the Spurs best player one of the years they won the championship.

No. Winning the Finals MVP in 2007 doesn't mean you were the best player on the team. Duncan was All-NBA First Team in 2007. Parker never even made the All-NBA Third Team before 2009.

Since Isiah's 90 Pistons no team whose best player was a small PG has won a championship.

Gary Payton was the best player on a team which went to game six of a finals against the Bulls.

Stockton went to two finals. One can debate whether he was better than Malone, but there's no doubt he's one of the best pg's of all time.

Both of these teams would have won if they didn't have the misfortune of going up against Jordan.

Iverson single-handedly led the 76'ers to the finals. The rest of his lineup was awful.

Jason Kidd was the Nets best player on a team that lost to Shaq/Kobe in the finals one year, and Duncan/Parker in the finals the next.

Nearly every championship over the past 20 years has been won by one of Jordan, Shaq, Lebron, Hakeem, Duncan, or Kobe -- in other words, the best players in the game at the time. And all of them are among the top ten players of all time. So while your statement is technically true, the spirit of it -- that teams built around great pg's can't succeed-- really isn't.

Damn it, in the afterglow of the Hawks game, I completely forgot about the Illini game....

Oh well, at least I missed a win.

Offensively sure he carried them but that was a strong team defensively with all the role players able to play strong D

Eric Snow, Aaron McKie, and Ty Hill must be three of the worst players to ever start in a finals.

And who were the good role players? Kevin Ollie? McCullough?
