It would suck if the game ends on a Seattle TD and Manning doesnt get a chance with the ball. The NCAA has it right.

NFL overtime rules are the worst. It's basically comes down to whoever wins the toss wins the game.

Not really, Denver's D could have held them out of the endzone...that shouldn't be too much to ask to extend the OT. Give Seattle credit, that was a championship drive.

Somewhat agreed, but I rather it end on a TD then the old rules where Seattle could literally stop playing right now and kick a FG to win.

Ironically Peyton's why they tweaked the rule - when he was left on the sidelines in a playoff game (I think it was San Diego) and the other team kicked a FG on the first possession to win it.

Sure, it's improved, but it still stinks.

Winning a coin toss shouldn't be a massive advantage for the outcome of a game.

What the NCAA does is practically equivalent to a shootout, it's not real football. I actually like the hybrid NFL rule, the game only ends on a first possession if the team scores a TD.

It's still not perfect but football doesn't really allow a ton of room for good OT rules.

Also comparing sudden death in hockey to football is apples and oranges. Sudden death makes sense in a sport like hockey.

Why not just give them 10 or 15 minutes and just see who comes out on top at the end?

You would end up with massive amounts of time wasting and clock micromanagement by certain teams that would be boring as hell, and fast offenses would end up with advantages that aren't exactly fair.

I don't think there is a perfect OT solution for football.

Edit: What a snoozer of a game this is. Also Panthers owner looks the Berger Mister Mister Berger from "Santa Claus comes to town"

Plus the union doesn't want an automatic extra 15 minutes for every OT game, there's already enough 'safety issues' as is :P

I see it!

Honestly only way to make a "let them play" OT work would be 30 mins and do another half. Flow the game almost demands that much time. A team could literally waste almost an entire 15 min quarter on their opening drive if they wanted and win on a FG. Would suck ass.

Suck ass like this game. The Steelers are just not a good football team.

Anybody with Carolina's D has to be melting down right about now. -5 in ESPN leagues.

Thank god, that's the only thing that kept me from blowing an 80-point lead today (he had Wilson, Lynch, Sanders, Lev Bell and the Panthers and I only had Julius Thomas after 4). I still have CJ on deck tomorrow but I didn't really want to have to rely on him getting more than a few points
