We will have each other still

And A and W!

Our tears can flow into frosty mugs of delicious A&W root beers.

It will take a bit, as McDavod, Draisaitl, Nurse and Bouchard are still in their prime. We will start to slide as Eckholm, Nuge, and Kane decline with no natural replacements on the way. So we have only a couple years. As everyone else has mentioned, it’s mostly Perry, Ryan, Gagner and Henrique that are skewing our average and they aren’t core players.

To be fair, does it really matter how old the rest of the roster is when the team is still basically a one line team with McDavid?

As long as he's still buzzing, they'll be fine.
Nah we have a very good forward group. It's funny you guys trash the defense, trash the offense now, trash the goaltending. It's a miracle we are even close to a playoff spot, not to mention 2nd in our division comfortably 12 points into a spot.

Viewed with-in the context of athletic capability, it makes perfect sense. Biologically competing against people half your age puts you at a massive disadvantage. 30, hell, 40 isn't "old" physically speaking in a vacuum obviously. But of course the stress accumulated on a body is exponentially greater for a professional athlete at 30 or 35 compared to a regular person as well.

Outside of professional athletic competion a lot of people seem to increasingly be in better shape, physically speaking, in their 30's than in their 20's these days I've noticed however. Metabolism slowing down sucks although some people win the genetic lottery there too... so unfair.
I feel like a 60 year old Swede!

Given we have near zero in terms of prospects rising thanks to league worst drafting and development over the past decade, being this old is concerning at this stage of McDavids career.

Not a lot in the system to replace players who age out and we already look slow out there too often.

Thoughts?

We are in win now mode. We have traded a lot of picks from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd over the past few years only really have Ekholm to show for. We traded a 2nd and 3rd to move Kassian. 2 seconds and third for Green and AA. Both gone after 3 months. We need to get better at asset management.

Picks we have over the next 3 drafts
2024-2nd. 5th. 2 6th and 2 7th
2025-1st, 3rd. 6th and 7th
2006-We have all our picks.

But all the assets we gave away for nothing is hurting us now.
