If Horcoffs not here sometime tomorrow then I'll be somewhat concerned. I mean yeah, I'm no fan of the guy as a captain, or player, but I wasn't overly concerned about arrivals. That being said, one would think the captain of a club could report a bit early or at least when the majority of other veterans and guys are coming in.

If he doesn't report early, how's he gonna get 'Welcome Back' gift bags ready for the boys?!?

Alright bud I get it, it shouldn't matter. It's JMO though. As I said, if he's here tomorrow it'll be all good.

Also, great pic of Smitty and Nail. Thank goodness for Ryan Smyth, the true heart and soul of the Oil. Good job guys.

That picture was tweeted by a Karly Lowe and a Darby Lowe was also tagged in it. I have a feeling at least two of those girls are Kevin Lowe's daughters

MacT spotting in the back left as well

hall takes the number yak takes the girl slowly but surely tambo is pushing him out the door

also as for dining alone looks like he went to the oil kings with high ups by the mact in the back there

There will be changes and I wouldnt be the least bit surprised to see Luongo in E-Town.
I however an waiting for MPS to arrive, this is his breakout year,he anchored the Barons second line which was the stick that stirred that team, the first line racked up the points but the second line was the pillar behind the sucess they were having.MPS was the catalyst of that 2nd line sucess,he is ready to be a leader, and has looked awsome.Harti is an energy guy but Magnus is already an elite skater and potential defensive specialist with playmaking ability.MPS,Lander and Hartikainen were a stabilising influence when the barons were beginning to tailspin, they pulled it together quite well.

I see MPS working well with Gagner and Yakupov. His size and speed compliment those two and he is defensively capable of useing his speed to back up Yaks offensive thrusts and Sams net presence and inside work.Yak needs to shoot the puck and so does Sam,someone needs to be the disher and the fisher, maybe Magnus will learn to crash the net for rebounds he has already improved at taking the d-man wide and hard.

Horcs has taken his shots already,I am giving the poor guy a mulligan,we have already paid the green fees.Great things ahead as the men continue to file in.

Wonder if Messier or Gretzky or Jason Smith would have been here and greeting the new guys before camp starts and doing some team building?

Messier did a few times, even before he was made captian and he would sometimes meet the player at the airport to pick them up.

Messier also took new players on a tour of Edmonton if they arrived a few days before training camp

Certainly hope the Oilers DO NOT recall Paajarvi or Lander. No point. These two need to get their act together. 7-0 wash-out loss Friday night. They need to start leading that team out of the impending gutter.

No need to recall anyone. "Maybe" VV to be in the pb.

Quote:
"COMPLIANCE BUYOUTS
Teams will be allowed up to two buyouts over the next two summers -- 2013 and 2014 -- either one in each summer or two in one summer and none in the other. The new detail here that I found interesting is that any player bought out under these circumstances CANNOT be re-acquired by that same team during the upcoming season, not by waivers, not by trade and not by free-agent signing."

So hypothetically, the Oilers could trade Horcoff for Redden from the Rags and both teams could buy them out... then they could be signed as free agents by their original teams.

I wonder if they have stipulations in the new CBA to cover those types of scenarios as well?

This is risky, since it is an obvious attempt to get around a specific rule in the CBA. I doubt it would be allowed if the trade happened in the off season.

If the deal happened this year with the intent to do as you say at the end of the year it would probably fly. Unfortunately, this is not something I would expect any pair of teams to do.

Ever since smyth came back he has been nothing short of spectacular when it came to being a leader. He has even invited all the young guys to his house for thanksgiving dinner(s) and other events. I will always be a smytty supporter.

Smytty has impressed me a lot in this regard. Jeez, he had Yakupov calling his teammates family after his first practice.

He's never been the sharpest knife in the drawer but what he lacks in intellect he makes up for in character. It's a travesty that when all is said and done, he'll have never captained the Oilers.

Good for Smytty! From the interview I read and seeing stuff like this and on the ice, he looks like he's ready to turn the page, accept his role and become a real mentor to the kids. Now.... if we could just get out supposed captain to do the same.
