Could the Rangers trade Nash for Mantha + Smith + pick and then turn around and trade Staal for Eberle? Not many takers for Eberle. EDM needs defense.

FA forwards I look at if im Gorton. Okposo (if we trade Nash), Versteeg, Marchessault, Stempniak, Pirri, Gagner, Purcell.

This would be for the 2nd or 3rd line

Outside of Okposo that is

I don't think anyone is going to trade the Rangers a high end prospect, a decent young roster player, and a 1st round pick for Nash

I think the fact that the Oilers paid so much just to get a right-handed defender means they're probably not waiting around to take a left-handed veteran with a large contract. Plus I don't envision Staal waiving to go there.

Not that it matters anymore but some weird tax numbers were posted online about if Stamkos left Florida for NY. I think they said Stamkos would have to pay 1.6 mill more a year in state taxes on his 8.5 mill salary if he left Florida for NY state. That seems far off. It would be 4.25 mill (41 home games) times 8.8%. That 8.8% state tax ($380,000) would also be deducted from his federal tax.

I was just discussing this with AKM. It's a lot more complicated than caphit(which taxes are not based)divided by 82, multiplied by 41!

It has nothing to do with cap hit. Taxes are based on income earned. The government could not care less about cap hits. NY state taxes are 8.82%

Happy they are still talking to Stalberg.

I would do Nash for Smith/Sheahan, Mantha, and a 2nd pretty easily.

If it's Ericsson I'd try to get a 1st.

Yeah I'd be fine with that as a return. Ericsson would be tough to swallow, but might be necessary. A lot of people have soured on Mantha, but he's still a promising prospect.

Nobody want our aging high salaried players. Nash has no value with his cap hit.

Exactly! Actual dollars earned annually.

Yes but Stamkos will pay state income taxes in most other states for the road games he plays in so the major difference is only the savings for the home games in Florida. So I ball parked the estimate at 41 games for the maximum difference. NY state income tax is 8.82%. Players do not have to pay two different state taxes for the same game. The state tax the player ends up paying would then be deducted from his federal tax. My ball park estimate for the net tax difference per year would be around $380,000 times times .614 (39.6% top federal tax rate) =$233,320. That doesn't take in to account city taxes.
