I fully expect Kotkaniemi to be drafted before the Oilers pick, leaving one of the dmen. There will be no puckmoving d men available at 10. They'll be taken ,mark my words, and only Ty Smith will be available.

I really doubt Chia is this smart.I read the posts and I wonder how many people here have ever been involved in an actual negotiation before.
lets look at it like this.
Assumed Fact: Chia is looking to bring in another top 4 offensive RHD (most can agree on that, if you disagree on that you are just being obtuse to be obtuse).
Assumed Fact: Every other GM in the league knows Chia is trying to bring in a top 4 RHD.
Assumed Fact: Every other GM also knows Chia traded Eberle for Strome and 16/33 OVa for griffin reinhart.
Non facts but probable based on negotiation tactics.
Chia is talking to teams about their players and who might be available. he starts getting some price info and realizes that everyone is trying to garth snow him. Chia/oilers leak to rishaug that they are looking at prices like 10th+Klefbom for Risto. rishaug says it on air 1. for ratings and buzz and 2. to tell the league that these are the ridiculous offers the oilers are getting. festers for a day then Stauffer, a known oilers shill comes out and says they are not making any big moves (because the price is ridiculous). he pushes the narrative the oilers think less is more this offseason.
so now,
Other GMs know that Chia isn't trying to get hacked again. If they want something from the oilers it will not be eberle for strome bad.

Would it?Risto checks some boxes for us but then our offensive capability from the left side would take a big hit by losing Oscar.
Ty Smith the puck-moving D man? That'd be a great outcome for the Oilers.
The big if here is...will Sellers bounce back close to his old form? Or will the injury, missed year and his age hold him back?Would it?
Sekera - Larsson probably wouldn't produce at a much lower rate than Klefbom - Larsson in all honesty.
Nurse - Ristolainen on the other hand would outproduce leaps and bounds over Nurse - Larsson.
One for one, I'd have to make that trade. It'd give us some balance back there for the first time since '08.
Long term, it probably isn't. If we're addressing the need at that position at any point over the next year or so, Larsson or him aren't going anywhere anytime soon. On the left side, Sekera and Russell are getting older and if Klefbom is moved for that player, the organization need shifts to the left side instantaneously. Our need is on the right side, however. Ty Smith, also, does not seem as good as his number. Regardless, none of these players will help us next season. Are all you guys really willing to stay another summer out of the playoffs?

Could honestly go either way
Fair but this team is a few players away from being legit and we don't have the assets or cap space to fix it right now.Our need is on the right side, however. I mean I'm sure Chia could throw everything at it and get us into the playoffs but it would be destroying our already shallow prospect pool for a temp fix.
The more I think about it, Chia is boned either way.
To me Chia will have a successful off season if he doesn't throw away a ton of value again and doesn't allow another top 4 defender go for pretty cheap out from under his nose
If he can make minor move that improve, move out dead cap space (Kassian) and find a Ufa winger or two and defender to give our prospects some breathing room... That's all I can expect really.
If he moves a bunch of big assets for a Faulk that's a mistake. Ristolainen is a good target but he CANT sell low on the assets he gives up. The org can't afford another Eberle or Hall or Reinhart trade again.
For now. Needs are fluid. Bear could be a regular in a season's time while Sekera and Russell will be at the end of thel ine and then we'll be looking for LHD.
What does that even mean?
I'd rather let it ride and miss the playoffs than lose a trade that ultimately hinders our ability to actually compete in the long run.
I feel like, if we keep our core, but somehow manage to get a top 4 puckmoving D-man without giving away Klefbom or Nurse, then it is a win. That's all we need. Also, maybe a top six forward. 1 top six forward one top 4 puckmover and thats a win. We don't need to go all in on a Carlson or Karlsson.
Franson isn't an NHL player.and look at a Cody Franson-type player to fill in as a PP specialist.
The term sophomore slump exists for a reason. Not the biggest fan but not absurd to think he can bounce back to his rookie season level of playThe same people who turned so fast on Davidson are the ones acting like Benning is anything more than filler at this point. Picking up secondary assists while Mcdavid/Drais create a goal on their own isn't exactly showing offensive promise. The guy is Corey Potter level of a player but because he's young and signed with us people seem to have this weird obsession of pretending he's good or more importantly that he wasn't absolute garbage this last year.
That's pretty rude, frankly. You suggest bringing him in as PP Specialist. I fail to see how what would work seeing as he's not an NHL player.Read for comprehension.
If we are talking just best puck moving D, Ty Smith is probably top 3 in this draft in that category. Our need is on the right side, however. Ty Smith, also, does not seem as good as his number.
