Even if you compare it to NHL 12 its not a big change.NHL 14 is about what you expect. Not a ton of changes from last year but still an improvement. Graphically the game looks almost exactly the same besides the player's faces looking a lot better IMO. I enjoy the gameplay a lot more from last year's iteration so far. Shots feel a lot more dangerous and the stick check is a lot less effective. Hitting also feels a lot more reliable and rewarding this time around.
If you're looking for a big change from last year's game I'd recommend skipping 14 but overall I think it's a worthwhile buy.
(Scored a hattrick with Perron in the Oilers first game against Winnipeg. Hopefully the same comes true in real life.)

Just opened my starter pack to HUT and pulled Boyd Gordon, Denis Grebeshkov and Cam Fowler.
Yeah, this is gonna be the first time since '99 that I'm not going to be buying NHL, just don't see the point in buying a game that I'll be bored of in a day. I'll have to start spreading it out for two years to try and regain some interest, it's done the trick with Madden
I opened my starter pack and got Gordon, Grebeshkov, and Luca Sbisa... Strange. Haha
Anybody know how to edit attributes and looks on your live character. My guy's still 48 overall and I can't find the attributes section anywhere.
I think Gordon and Grebeshkov are ones you get autoatically if you select your favorite team as Edmonton. I was playing against another Oilers team that had Gordon, Grebeshkov, and Cory Conacher
I believe so.
