So you have quoted that our D is our strength,Does that mean we have strong d or just our D is going to be better than the offence. Our D struggled this year with JP bailing them out numerous times. With goaltending questionable or at least not to a JP standard and with the returnees on D,Are we not going to have a long year.Just my thoughts

Massey i think will be just fine. a few new players in the mix and this team will be good . Have Faith.

Hergott will not be in the mix from what i've been told. They have a couple of goalies that are better with experience from the last 2 drafts . Hergott could not make any jr level last summer. Sitting out half the season did not help him either im sure.

The only 2 goalies drafted besides Hergott are Audet and Rivers. I'm pretty sure Rivers is going to go the NCAA route and should be the starter with Kanata (CCHL) next year. Audet played in 22 games (2 teams) in the NOJHL.

I agree with you BM. Try and name two other teams that will struggle more than us. Maybe we will catch a lucky break here and there but realistically things look like a full and total rebuild. See Ottawa and Erie. Again I say pack your patience. And it will be interesting to see how Jacques demeanor handles this turbulent time, providing he is still around.

The biased comment was based on the fact the poster has a connection to the player.

Not that I want to antagonize, but I'd love to know where you get the idea that because I know a player (like I've said before, I as well as many other posters know players on the team) I would pull random statements out of my ass. I am in no position to make statements on who is 'pencilled in' as a starter, but when the head coach and GM of the team publicly says something, I think it's pretty safe to say that unless something changes it is fairly accurate.

No, I don't think Barrick has the body of experience that OHL starters traditionally do, but barring a trade, he is Sarnia's best option for a goaltender.

I'm a Spits fan who became a Sting season ticket holder due to convenience. (Thurs night spit games conflicted with working life). Since I'm in even closer to Chatham I would welcome the team, but I too have some difficulty believing that Chatham could support an OHL franchise over the long haul. That said, it should would make for some great rivalries

hefty price

Sarnia acquires KIT 2nd in '13 from Rangers for BEL 3rd '13, MIS 5th '13, SAR 3rd '14. #OHL

I guess when you express your desperation, you pay the price. Hope the kid is worth it.

Excellent trade for Sarnia. The difference between a third and second rounder (especially 33rd) will be quite substantial.

There's clearly a player they covet and I am sure they ensured they moved up enough to get him (or one of the guys on their list). Lots of great defensive depth so they will get someone.

Potential Players I like around that spot:
Adam Craievich (long shot)
Noah Bushnell
Josh Cayo
Jesse Barwell
Austin Gerhart
Michael Davies - maybe
Sam Harding
Ethan Szypula - doubtful, but maybe

Colin White (D) - maybe
Cole Mayo (D)
Noah Carroll (D)Zach Wilcke (D)
Austin Clapham (D)
Andrew Peski (D)
Josh DeFarias (D)
Justin Lemcke (D)

Can anyone tell me about our first 3 picks in Korostelev, Bushnell, and Schliching? From the sounds of it, it looks like we got a steal drafting Schlichting 3rd round.

Time will tell but this could be a very good draft by the Sting. Nice to see some local kids get drafted. What happened to CHOK? Not much information from them on the draft day. Thank God for other media to follow.

Go sting go!

Any chance one or more of the scouts/writers could sum up the draft for the Sting...sounds like the top 3 picks were solid...any info on the mid to late round picks (NCAA or US commitments). I heard the last pick (goalie) might turn out to be a steal...love the way JB drafted with size and grit...held out taking a center for a few rounds...I'm sure he knows what he's doing...a lot of praise from the writers I follow on twitter

I will be writing a recap for all of the Sting picks in the coming days but here's my quick thoughts:

Sarnia had a FANTASTIC draft. Seriously, they addressed a lot of needs and made some GREAT value picks

Nikita Korostelev - 1st Rd, 9th - He will fill a huge gap for next year's team. Pure shooter who has shown a willingness to mix it up physically at times (just not too consistent in that area). They had the choice between Brett McKenzie and Korostelev but I wasn't surprised they went with the Russian. Both have huge potential though

Noah Bushnell - 2nd Rd, 33rd - I mentioned above the players Sarnia might be targeting and I had a strong feeling he was the player they REALLY wanted. I was taking notes nearby the Sting staff at the Alliance ASG and it was clear they LOVED Bushnell. Gritty player who is tough as nails. As a bonus he can score too. IMO, he adds an element Sarnia was missing (especially in the playoffs) as he is a tenacious forechecker. Very hard to play against. Sarnia needs these types IMO.

Connor Schlichting (D) -3rd Rd, 41st -big defenseman that most agencies had ranked as a late 1st/early 2nd. Good skater with an excellent first pass. He has some filling out to do but his potential is high.

Justin Fazio (G) - 4th Rd, 69th - Ecstatic Sarnia grabbed Fazio. The scouting agencies I spoke to directly didn't have him rated as high as I would've (but that's probably from not viewing him enough in the Alliance). He looks as OHL ready as any G I've come across this season. He actually reminds me a lot of JP Anderson. Excellent at making that first save. Definitely has game-breaking ability. Great pick IMO!

Nick Boka (D) - 6th Rd, 103rd - Committed to the NTDP program and MSU but he could be a steal in the 6th if he reports in a few years. Big physical defenseman with a great shot. Extremely difficult to play against. Incredible pro upside. Good spot to take a risk here. Ranked inside the 1st round.

Andrew Peski (D) - 6th Rd, 106th - Defenseman who was ranked inside the top 35 but two agencies I was in contact with. He went in the 6th round. Great value. Defensive defenseman with a good stick and wheels to skate the puck out of trouble. Excellent positioning. Just a smart defenseman with a good work ethic.

Alex Black (D) - 6th Rd, 115th - The third defenseman selected in the 6th round. Tough as nails. He actually fought (new) teammate Noah Bushnell in a game this season (beauty fight). Likely a 5/6 type of defensive defenseman. Good skater already.

Martin Frechette (F) - 7th Rd, 129th - I really liked Frechette in my viewings. Owns a dynamic quality to his game. Good skater with solid lateral agility. Distributes the puck very well.

Alex Boudreau (D) - 8th Rd, 149th - Not the best skater but he's very good defensively. Work in progress but projects as a defensive defenseman.

Brody Stevens (F)
- 9th Rd, 169th. Watched him once this year and I think he impressed me but to be honest, I was focusing mostly on Sean Day. Played for Compuware.

Brendan Trottier (F) - 11th Rd, 209th - Local Lambton Sting. The only member of the team that had a chance of being selected. Very smart player and projects as a defensive specialist type of player.

Luke Kunin (F) - 12th, 229th - Committed to the NTDP but he's a late bday so he could arrive after he's done there. Decent offensive skills. Ranked 50th and 125th by two agencies I talked to. Selected 229th overall so that's good value if he every comes.

Ryan Hunt (F)
- 14th Rd, 269th - Didn't really stand out too much to me in my viewings of the Marlboros but he was buried by depth. He's smaller and shows good hockey sense so it's something the team and he can work on.

JP Sabourin (G) - 15th Rd, 289th - Very surprised Sarnia was able to land their second goaltender here. He made some remarkable saves in the OHL Cup for Eastern Ontario Wild. He's small (5'9) but Sarnia got great value here. He's extremely poised in the net and was a huge factor in Eastern Ontario's success this year.

I guess that was lengthier than I intended haha. Promising draft ladies and gentlemen.

BTW, Beaulieu stated in a post-draft interview that he expects the top three picks to play next year

Thanks for the insight. Very helpful since I do not watch these prospects ever so at least when I am at training camp I will be able to relate to these players a bit more. Rumour has it Fazio is a relative to the Ciccarelli Family. Do you know if this is true? If so, they may be signing the first four picks. LOL Very glad to see them pick a local boy in Trottier in the later round.

Does anyone know when the Rookie Camp will be held?

On a side note, its sounding more and more in the sting office like Josh Jacobs and Cam Ashley are joining the club. Great news.

If Sarnia gets Josh Jacobs to report that will be HUGE. He was easily a first round talent in the 2012 draft.

No doubt that Cam Ashley will be joining the team. I have talked to him and he can't wait to come to town.

Looking towards the Import Draft, I wonder if Sarnia has an import goalie they could be targeting? It's certainly an area of question so maybe that's a possibility.

Are there any good goalie prospects that you know of who will report? I am sure Igor has a few up his sleeve! Obviously some of the imports work out tremendously as in Yaki, but then not so well as in Nemecek (whom I personally didn't think got a fair shot at showing his potential by sitting out so many games).

Peski would be a steal if he reports---but I read on the Ottawa 67's AAA website that he was going to go the NCAA route. Not sure if thats a ploy like Abou Assaly pulled last year,or maybe its true. Time will tell I guess.
