Example: Next year we acquire Chicago's first for 2018.

Could you use that as a first? Or does it have to be your own first?

Is it possible to do something like: Chi 1st, SJ 2nd(owned), need someones 3rd, and target Ekblad? :sarcasm:

something like that is the only way I would even debate it.

I still think the worst decision that Buffalo ever made was not taking the 4 first round picks from edmonton for Vanek.

Ive never been a fan of them, they just seem like a good way to screw over your own cap by overpaying for a player.

If the player is really worth keeping the other team will simply match it.

Have we learned nothing from the Burke and Kessel show? A rebuilding team does not offer sheet unless it's McDavid ;)

No - Not a good idea, offer sheet some one and then give gave away picks

We need as many picks / prospects as we can not to give away our picks

Develop your own picks to be top tier players

We should not ruin our rebuild process - have some patience guys

We're not going to offersheet anyone. Our 2017 pick is too valuable to risk for the kind of player it would return.

In all likelihood, no one is going to offersheet anyone. That's not the point.

It's the threat of an offersheet that matters, and that's something we can still take advantage of. The threat of an offer sheet is what forced Saad and Hamilton to be moved last offseason, and it could be what forces a piece we need to be moved this summer. If a valuable player isn't signed by June 30th, their team is going to trade them for the best available offer, which is still likely at a big discount.

Offer sheets end up pissing people off more than anything. Should the team not match the leafs end up overpaying + giving up picks.

matt dumba is a prime asset for the taking this summer he's up for a new contract and the wild have no money to pay him

wrong info. They have $$$ going out with Jones (4M), Fontaine, Porter, Carter, possibly Kuemper. They will trade Dumba/Brodin if they have to rather than risk being offersheeted.

Original picks but for the following season though. They can't offer sheet anyone before the draft.

Yes, but unless you expect the Leafs to be a playoff team that pick is subjected to lottery and can very well be the 1st pick in the 2017 draft.
