the free tickets are for people who newly moved to the area and received a postcard in the mail. someone found the link and posted it, but they have a list of names of who got the original post card. anyone who applies for tickets to those two games but didn't get the postcard gets an email offering tickets to one of the preseason games (which is nice since they didn't really have to do that)

I doubt there are any red flags. Probably just needing a little more time to finalize the investors.

Geez, whatever happened to PK's comments (paraphrase) a while back of if Greenburg doesn't close in a few week - sayonara....it's been more than a few weeks

Re: levels of government. Don't see how that would a reason for delay if any as they would approve the transfer of the lease. Don't think any changes are expected there are there?

Even if there are no changes and everything transfers as-is, there's still due diligence. That takes quite a while, even in ideal circumstances.

7000 according to Waddell in the N&O.

Assuming that the Canes announce ticket sold and not butts in the seats would that mean a walk up of 892?

The sooner this sale closes the quicker the franchise can regain some footing in the market. The on ice product looks to be moving in the right direction.

Teams usually include half season ticket holders and smaller package holders in the numbers. The number of full season ticket holders is probably much lower.

Correct. I'm a half season ticket holder with two seats for my wife and I. We split the cost with another couple. To my knowledge the team counts us as one (maybe two) season ticket holder(s). FWIW we didn't select Tuesday's game for our package primarily because Friday and weekend games are easier for us to get to as mid-week games require both my wife and I would have to leave work early so we could run home, let the dog out, consolidate to one car, get to the arena, etc and the same's true for the couple we share our seats with. About the only mid-week game any of us really want to make that effort for is when the Pens are in town.

I'm also a partial season ticket holder and only select one or so games a year that aren't on Friday or the weekends...and it is always one during the holidays where I am off work. With kids in school and my own job, getting to a game on a week night is not enjoyable.

I'm on the 11 game plan and I only have 2 weeknight games, Dallas in November and Arizona in March. I'm in Durham and I find I can get to PNC in roughly 45 minutes on a Friday after work, but I'm using vacation days for those two dates. You're playing with fire if you go after work on a weekday.

That's an interesting definition of 'attendance' he's using. If he wants to say they're not last in ticket revenue, then that's a different story. If he wants to talk about this season then that's accurate as well.

Sometimes the numbers are what they are and there's no way to spin them. Hopefully this is a bottoming out and he won't have to answer attendance questions after said home games.

He does have a point IMO... It's not really about just how many butts in seats, it's what those butts are paying. The worst market can sellout every game with $5 tickets, but that's not too smart as far as the bottom line goes.

As far as attendance though, unless you are in the mists of some blizzard or storm that would keep people away, an NHL game drawing less than 10,000 people is a concern.

getting to games on a weeknight is a nightmare coming from cary. you either sit in traffic forever on 40 during rush hour or you sit in traffic forever through cary during rush hour.

Pretty much everyone going to an NHL game has traffic and crowds to deal with. The majority of games are at night after work. This isn't something unique to your team.

yes i know, i went to the game

the difference is this team hasn't made the playoffs in nearly a decade where other teams usually make it at least once in that timeframe. or have a superstar player worth seeing. or are actually good. people aren't going to go out of their way to pay full price to a game for this team when they are an almost nhl record level of bad.

My guess is he is referring to Arizona and possibly Florida with regards to attendance. Freebies (possibly) in those markets might mean there are fewer paid tickets than Carolina and/or those markets have a lower gate than Carolina. I could definitely see this for Arizona as their ticket prices appear to be the lowest in the league.

Arizona cut the freebies out a long time ago. Prices are another matter though. But don't be fooled by some of the discounts they offer because they're very limited in the number of seats in most cases.

Okay, that's nice and all, but attendance means butts in the seats. If team A draws 15,000 people per night at $25 a seat and team B draws 14,000 people a night at $50 per seat, then team A has higher attendance even though team B has a significantly bigger gate.

Carolina is one of those teams that sell their tickets for about 20$ upper level but have 1 or 2 nights a year they discount it to 15 lower level and have parking go up almost every year.(sebastian aho scored his hat trick on one of those nights) meanwhile we have not made the playoffs in 7/8 years (ive lost count at this point) and we didn't 1st overall pick ourselves to playoffs like edmonton. If we got Mcdavid we would have a entire building full every game. We also have a history for losing the first 5 or so games in regulation and one or 2 in OT. Also it was a week night and its hard to get to the games because of traffic. we also have traffic getting off I95
