Darling is going to be good this year.
Didn't we have a Picard on the roster before? That didn't go well, right?
Had to stop reading here. Nope.
Not enough data to decide.I think Pickard can make a good tandem with a Number One.

Well, for starters, it assumes those things were 100% of his problem. Even if I were to allow myself to believe that Darling is going to be solid this year, I would not allow myself to believe that he has rid himself of 100% of the problems with his goaltending by eliminating the things you mention. For example, I don't believe those things would adversely affect his ability to skate from post to post.I think we know why Darling failed last year. No training, unhealthy eating, badly out of shape, etc...
All those things have been removed from the equation.
So why would you think the same things are going to happen when there's nothing to cause them to happen anymore?
You don't think that being overweight and out of shape effected his ability to follow a puck post to post in the NHL over the course of a 82 game season where you rarely get more than 48 hours to recover? That's a tough schedule even for guys in peak condition.Well, for starters, it assumes those things were 100% of his problem. I think he's looked alright getting from post to post, but his puck tracking in the pre-season has still seemed suspect to me. I'm not going to write him off based on how he played this pre-season, but I'm also not going to chalk his pre-season up as more than a small sample size. We had times last year where he'd look like a world beater and then put up an unbelievably putrid performance the next game (Columbus followed by Toronto anyone?).Well, for starters, it assumes those things were 100% of his problem. No, I don't believe conditioning has anything to do with pushing off of your left skate, sliding across the crease on your pads, and blowing out well wide of the right post into no-man's land.
Perhaps my descriptor of "post to post" is off...maybe it's "puck tracking". Not sure what that's called in goalie jargon, but fitness has little to do with that physical feat.
You just described my "go to" ice skating move.Frankly it's just pure body control. Goalie fundamentals. The stuff Darling was doing last year was the goalie equivalent of a skater going full speed, forgetting how to stop, bailing by making a super wide turn, and crashing into the side boards. Like, you can't even coach your way out of that. You just shake your head and wonder what the hell.
