OEL is great but suffers from the HFBoards Hipster effect: where great players on teams nobody watches get drastically overrated.

Happened with Yandle too.

As far as OP goes all I can do is laugh.

You think Puljujarvi and a 1st is way too much for a #1D? Or way too little?

Which of those pieces is hard for you to give up? Which one makes you wince?

I suspect the answer is "none of them," which is a strong indicator you're not giving up nearly enough for a bonafide, young 1D.
Are you seriously shitting on Sam Reinhart?

The kid is 21 and has two 40+point seasons. He almost hit 50 last year.

He is, far and away, the best player I could see the Coyotes getting for OEL.

Like I said all last year, OEL was the most over rated player on this site. He is simply not as good as everyone went on about. A good puck moving D, who can put up points, but people were acting like he was a modern day Orr.

Coyotes simply cannot let him go. If they do, they basically submit to being a basement team for the next foreseeable future, which with their financial situation, is business suicide.

OEL had a bad year playing with a broken hand a critical ill mother with terminal cancer back in Sweden who passed away toward the end of the season. It was a rough year BY HIS STANDARDS but he was still a top D. This year, along with the rest of his teammates, he's had a poor showing as the group has lost all five of their first games.

Love OEL but the blue-line is by far our deepest position organization-wide. We need to add scoring.

Arizona fans, when you compare it to the Yandle situation, it seems very similar.

What more do you expect compared to that? Two firsts and a good prospect? A high end prospect + 1st + 2nd? More? Just curious.

OEL needs a change of scenery BADLY. Too many bad memories from Arizona. Have been a bottom dweller losing forever and last year losing his mother to cancer.

A new start might bring out the old OEL again.

To Ottawa

OEL

To Arizona.

Phaneuf
White
Chabot
1st

That gives Ottawa the chance to compete for the cup in Karlsson's prime and doesn't have to wait for Chabot to become dominant.

Fair value?
Arizona hangs up with the mention of Phaneuf in any deal.

This is a horrendous proposal. First, why would Arizona have any interest in the Phaneuf contract? Second, if you plan on making the playoffs and getting to the cup, the 1st rounder would end up 26-31 overall. Why would Arizona be interested in this pick? OEL is a top defenseman in the NHL and he's 26 years old. What impetus would Chayka have to make this trade?
