I don't think the disagreement is we needed another defenseman, I think the disagreement is we needed another right handed, puck moving defenseman. :

This time of year you don't always get the option of getting just exactly what you want. Find me a better one on the market that is available that isn't going to cost you an arm and a Jones. Yeah maybe the side isn't perfect but there are more things to consider than just one spot. Our core may be better down the right side, but if I remember correctly we actually have more left handers, which if someone goes down could be a problem.

That doesn't even bring in another huge bonus, he isn't playing for one of the teams we will be playing in the playoffs. I know you don't make deals based on that, but in this case it certainly is a huge bonus.

I would have liked to have gotten a LHD instead of RHD as well, but there really aren't any LHD rentals out there. Methot would have been nice, but clearly he wasn't available. All I can think of is Sekera and he was spectacular last year, but hasn't looked so hot this year. I'm probably missing someone, but help me out, who are the rental LHD out there?

All RHD: Michalek, Zidlicky, Franson, Petry, Green.

charter flights come into a different area of the airport. I don't think they use the same runways.

Incorrect. All flights use the same runways. During good weather, what runway a plane uses is typically dictated by taxi distance, unless they're heavy and need to use the longest runway (13/31) but that's rarely utilized due to the fact it crosses another runway and the wind rarely blows along that axis. During bad weather, they'll typically focus on keeping one runway open and all aircraft will use that.

You work for the airport? Are the runways heated? How do they keep one free of ice?

Nope, but I'm an aviation enthusiast and know a good bit about it.

No, they're not heated. It's just plain old snow removal techniques along with special de-icing fluid. The have huge capacity snow plows / snow blowers, and also have brush trucks that can scrub the runway. They have crews which go out as often as necessary to check runway conditions and special equipment to measure the traction.

With enough snow / ice, they'll eventually be overwhelmed, but if you got a crew constantly clearing one open runway and putting down de-icing fluid, you can keep it open a long time in all but the most extreme conditions.

I find it a bit hypocritical that the Mayor has asked for everyone to stay off the roads Tuesday but he has not asked, at least publicly, for the game to be rescheduled. The arena is owned by the Metro Sports Authority, which is part of the Metro Government. So the Mayor is asking for everyone to not drive, yet knows that thousands of people are still going to attempt to go to the game at the city arena.

Hopefully, conditions improve tomorrow and no one gets in a wreck tomorrow night, including me.

(longtime lurker; thanks for teaching me the game, everyone!)

Also Metro Gov't employees are to report at 10am. State employees have been told that tomorrow is a normal work day. That's what, half the downtown working population? :shakehead

I guess it's possible that he's urging people to be off the roads in the morning and proceed with caution later if you have to, and hope for improvement. Probably when he "urges people to stay off the roads" he's sort of indirectly implying the morning work crowd.

Random question: I was watching be Poile presser and was wondering if he ever re-gained any vision in the eye he was hit in?

How do you all know it wasn't asked? You don't think he would go to the press to ask do you? Things are asked from companies by the city all the time that are denied. .

I don't know if it was asked. I hope it was discussed but I am not sure if it even needs to be "asked." The City owns the arena and if it is deemed a safety issue then I would assume they could close the arena. But that is an assumption as I do not know the terms of the lease or the operating agreement between the Sports Authority and the management company that oversees Bridgestone Arena.

By the way, the Governor declared a State of Emergency tonight. And I am not trying to steer this into a political debate. I am just observant that all government officials are saying "stay off the roads" but we are still having a very important hockey game tomorrow night that many of us, including me, a season ticket holder, are weighing the pros and cons of going to. I don't want to miss Franson and Santorelli's return. I'm sure many of you feel the same way.

There's an awful lot that goes into scheduling an NHL hockey game. Certainly the question of fairness can arise. If San Jose has to fly across the country again to play a back-to-back where they would not have had one, they're obviously not going to be happy about it.

Obviously the biggest factor though is the scheduling of the facilities. There are only so many open dates available. And even with an open date, it might not be possible to reset the arena in time if it has been in a non-hockey configuration. Then of course there's the question of TV scheduling/rights/availability, the availability of the numerous NHL officials needed to conduct a game, the availability of all the arena workers, extra police for traffic control, etc.

In short, it's understandable why only the most severe circumstances lead to the cancellation of a game. They'd rather the game be played in an empty arena than having to be rescheduled.

As for Franson and Santorelli, it sounds like there's a good chance they won't be playing tomorrow night regardless, due to issues getting a work visa.

Eh there are so many logic issues when it comes to companies and bad weather that it makes you want to scream. I know my company ,at least once a day if not more, sits around and tells us that safety is the top priority, it trumps everything. Then when the roads are covered in ICE and its damn near impossible to get anywhere, you are expected to be at work. Granted they are home in their warm beds, they aren't trying to drive home in it at 5am.

No, totally blind in that eye with no hope of recovery at this point. Would not surprise me if he loses it at some point because it already looks like it's beginning to atrophy.

It would still have to be asked. Powers controls the arena operations not Metro. It's one of the agreements. The can't just take back control of the facility whenever they want.

I am a facility manager. Our building is open but employees are encouraged to work from home and to use their best judgment.
