I think Karlsson availability has really hurt the Rangers ability to move McDonagh. They won’t be able to until that dust clears.

what about Gardiner for McDonough?

why would NYR?
objective is younger and less expensive and avoid big ticket deal or UFA in '19
Gardiner is basically same re age, contract terms and expiration
won't even approach the combat over player comparison

No team wants to give up a ton of assets for a guy to play on their offwing and subsequently play worse than their previous play on the proper side

Ton of assets... off wing... play worse. Yeah, the expected nonsensical response.
You don't want to upgrade your defense for the chance to win the cup. Alrighty then, wish you luck in the playoffs.

They won't move him for anything "cringeworthy" for NYR. Both big deals they've made so far came out very reasonable to well of them. They're not going to blow the biggest deal they have to make.

That's all well and good, but no one is making that claim. We're talking about the poster's claim that McDonagh will get a return that will make the opposing team cringe.

Would ether team trading for McDonagh cringe if they traded for him without dealing anything off the roster? Tampa and Toronto would both be making a crazy push if the just added McDonagh to their current lineups.

That would depend on what the package is, no? Is there any reason to believe the claim that the return will be cringeworthy to the opposing team?

It's a pretty legitimate question, actually.

Proof is in the pudding. Why isn't Rielly killing critical penalties and sitting on the bench in the last minute of the game with a 1 goal lead ? Pretty sure that would not be the case for McDonagh if we were lucky enough to acquire him.

The whole "shutdown d" is such a overrated concept in todays game.

The game is so fast and with the taking out of most any slashing, not much "shutting" down is actually going on.

It's about being faster, more talented and dictacting in todays NHL vs gameplanning to stop your opponent.

This thread is going precisely how you'd expect one without substantive rumors to go
