I thought he wanted to be "the guy" and wanted a chance to win?

He really gets neither in NYR

Not in the mood to argue about how good the Rangers are, but the first part makes no sense. There's no team that would win with Shattenkirk as the best player.

Hmm not bad. Cap hit a little higher but the term is good and makes it less risky. Pretty happy.

I'm just relieved he is not going to Tampa. After nixing a trade there earlier this year. That would have pissed off a lot of Blues fans.

Plus after the new CBA. They will only have to buy out one year of his contract if his D-Zone struggles continue.

GTFO people, $6.9M is awful for a guy who is one of the best offensive D's and one of the best PPQB's in his prime? Yeah OK.

I don't care how long it is almost $7M/yr for him is bad.

He's not that good.

Glad someone in the division overpaid for him.

He will help them push more offense out of the backend. Was a sore spot for them last year. Can't afford to have your D getting hemmed in and Lundqvist getting barraged.

Good move for Rangers short term.

Brenden Smith and Kevin Shattenkirk are making a combined 11.25M for the next 4 years.

I like both players, but that's steep

I'm not sure if the only 4 years is Shattenkirk fearing the Rangers window closes soon or the Rangers worried about a possible work stoppage

It's okay, they'll sign Dan Girardi as a backup play.

It gives Shattenkirk a chance to sign another big contract after this one
