Couldn't throw him an extra $50k and make it $3,3750,000 AAV. Haha.
The new CBA needs to make it a rule that AAVs must end with three zeros.

But not a single GM will give Jake Gardnier a contract after he put up 82 points in his last 144 games.
Isn't it possible that he has offers but wants to see if he can somehow return to the Leafs?
Shat has dealt with some pretty major injuries and is turning 31 this season.Fair deal imo, but how far off is Shattenkirk from Butcher these days that this is a good deal (all RFA years) but no one apparently wants Shattenkirk at 50% retention (3.325m x 2)?

good stuff
only issue here is that Hugues and Butcher will need to be renewed at the same time
There's a minute chance Hughes will cost more than 9 million in 3 years unless he wins the calder + has a few 30 goal seasons.
That would be a good problem to have.
As we've seen recently, you don't need to be a top pairing player to get paid 7M in the NHL anymore.
I'm fully expecting Vatanen to get 6M or more as a UFA this summer, and I'm pretty confident Butcher will be a better player in three years.
He's a defenseman that scores a lot of points, that immediately puts him on every team's radar. There will be a lot of GMs eager to overpay him.
It is, yup. Still seems kinda weird to have a dman with that production sitting unsigned am onth after free agency started.
