Hypothetically, what's the easiest way to make room for both Poehling and a potentially surprising Suzuki next season?

Just let Weal & Thompson go in the offseason, that's it?

I don't see the Habs making room for these guys just yet. Unless they dominate at camp, management will probably leave them in the AHL calling them up in case of injury.

Suzuki has a better chance due to the team needing a goal scorer and a PP specialist. Pretty big log jam at center and I don't see Poehling making Danault expendable this year.

Assuming Poehling does not play another year in the NCAA

He seems pretty close to being ready. He has come a long way since being drafted. I am cautiously optimistic that he signs and he pans out. Looking over the past 30 years at how many Habs late first round picks have busted its astounding

They should be in the AHL

No doubt. Not my question though.

Wasn't it Friedman who said last month that the Habs were contemplating inserting Poehling in a potential playoff run? Nevermind Danault, I think they want Ryan on the 4th line.

MB at the trade deadline presser was asked about Poehling. He said that Poehling's focused on the championship right now so they haven't had any contract talks. He also said that it would be difficult to have him jump from collegiate hockey straight into NHL playoff hockey.

Great thanks, I had missed that. We'll have to wait until he's done this year.

Suzuki is really an outside chance, they just tend to rush them in general. Hopefully they can get to know each other's game next year in the AHL while the team carries a get-me-Lafreniere lineup.

I think Poehling has the better chance since we have an opening at 4th line center most likely and he has the physical tools of size, strength, speed, skating. I think Poehling could have played in the NHL this year, not that I want him to play in the NHL next year. It should be a very interesting camp as we could be looking at having our top 3 prospects all turn pro at the same time.

Three out of five.

Primeau will probably stay in college and Romanov has another year in the KHL (19 yo!!)

You may be right in that he makes the team as a 4th line center. I personally don't want that at all unless he's with decent players like Byron and Armia or something like that. We'll see. I just think Suzuki fits a bigger need therefore he'll get a longer look.

Perhaps. Not sure I like the idea of that though. Baptism by fire

I know this is the Suzuki thread... but if anyone is comparing him to Cammy, then let's hope Suzuki can one day do this in Montreal.. Wow!

Its surprisingly emotional, actually... Best PO game in Montreal since '93, imo.

Build a winner, MB!

I also like that Goal horn better than the one now. And I miss Subban. Also last time I really heard the Habs crowd be as voracious as it's known to be. Now back to Suzuki!

Just not a big fan. Did not really like what I saw from him in either his pre season with us or the world juniors. Lacks size, speed and intensity.

Is lacking size still a thing in 2019 when you have top point getters like Gaudreau/Point/Marner?

While he's no Byron in a straight line , his skating looked quite good to me during the WJC and during the sequences I've seen of his OHL games. He's always been known as a fluid skater , don't see that as a weakness in his game.

In terms of judging him on a handful of games in a tourny + training camp that doesn't seem like much to deem a young player tradeable for a late 1st that may not even produce an AHLer...

Size alone might not be as big of a deal as it used to but like I said I have other concerns. How many undersized players with below average skating and lack of intensity thrive in the NHL? That plus the fact that hes never impressed me makes me not particularly high on him.

Habs fans are so used to watching management and coaching staff glorify guys like Shaw and Gallagher, that when they see a young prospect who thinks the game well and relies on smarts and skill to do damage, they think they suck.
