Best case scenario: Lindstrom is there at 5
Worst case scenario: Lindstrom is not there at 5

It’s gonna be like the last 2 years.

2022: Wright or ?
2023: 1st team that had a hard choice with Michkov
2024: Demidov and Lindstrom gone so either reach for Iginla/Sennecke or grab the BPA D (and cause another twitter meltdown).

If Celebrini, Demidov, and Lindstrom and say the MSU dman are gone top 4 do the Habs take a dman, which will likely be the group of best players left on the board @ 5 or just bite the bullet and take their forward @ 5, even if it's a bit of a reach at 5, which is what I think they'll just do if the above 3 forwards are gone before they pick.

Hopefully one of the top 3 forwards are still there at 5 though.

You don’t over think it and you take Iginla.

Trading down may be an option, but Iginla is low risk and medium/high reward. He’s as close to sure thing you’ll find at #5.

We will look back in 3-4 years and regret not taking him just like Tkachuk.

There was one question that really caught my attention.

When Engels asked Hughes if after meeting with the scouts if there was any "major separation" between the forwards projected to go in the 2-10 range, Hughes did everything he could to avoid answering the question.

It sort of gave the impression that there is a forward they think is separated from the pack and could potentially target if they want to trade up.

When you're picking in the top 10, you always factor in the team. These guys are a year or two away from being in your lineup.

If they're special talents you do it. Which is why you'd take Bedard if you were already small up front. Or take Celebrini when all you've done is draft forwards for a decade (Sharks)

You're not gonna pick a LD that's subjectively a bit better than a forward that you need.
Last time they did that, they took KK and it was the biggest mistake they make in the past 15 years.

Take the BPA, so many things can change in 2-3 years

Kinda what Hughes says in his presser quoting McKenzie that the #2 player depends on who picks probably

How does everyone see the top 5 shaking out as it stands?
I'm thinking it'll be something like:
  1. San Jose - Celebrini
  2. Chicago - Demidov
  3. Anaheim - Levshunov
  4. Columbus - Lindstrom
  5. Montreal - No clue
San Jose - Celebrini
Chicago - Levshunov
Anaheim - Silayev
Columbus - Lindstrom/Demidov
Montreal - Lindstrom/Demidov

Levshunov and Silayev I really think go 2-3. Teams just don't pass on defenseman that have 1D potential other than for generational forwards.

Imagine this....
Celebrini
Silyaev
Levshunov
Dickinson

Your pick...Demidov or Lindstrom? Me it's easy...Demidov.

Demidov is the player we need.

Someone that can open the game up. Someone that can score in overtime. Someone that can play the other point better than Suzuki on the PP. A 90 pts winger.

This is the depth we need (note the extra moves)

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Lafreniere (big trade from assets) - Dach - Demidov
NewHook - Boisvert (trade up at the draft)- Roy
Gallagher - Beck - Evans

Totally different scenario. The Habs were targeting a specific position. They also weren't stacked at the position they didn't take.

All their forwards are small. Do they want another small forward?

Davidson is Dubas without the glasses.

NHL should go back to the top 3.
NHL should just put the names of the 16 non-Playoffs teams in a hat and pick. No more planned tanking.

But I am glad Habs did not fall in the drafting to 6th or 7th.

Another 6-7 weeks of speculation about who Habs gonna draft, should draft, must draft…..
